Democrats signing up more new voters: report

NEW YORK (AFP) - Democrats have far outpaced Republicans in efforts to register new voters in two key US states, according to the New York Times, which conducted a county-by-county analysis of registration data in Ohio and Florida.


This grass-roots accomplishment could clinch the presidential race if the effort bears out nationwide and if the new voters go to the polls on November 2.


Each side has devoted millions of dollars and huge numbers of workers to voter registration, and both say record numbers of voters are signing up nationwide.

But the Times, which compared registration data from January through July 2004 to the same period four years earlier, found new registration up 250 percent in heavily Democratic areas of Ohio, compared to 25 percent in Republican strongholds.

It's certainly so in Colorado, and it must be so elsewhere.

Plus all of these efforts have the follow-up step of getting people to the polls.

Vicki and I are taking a day off work November 2nd to do just that.

I believe this is pretty much a nationwide trend.
