USA to increase military assistance to Georgia
RBC, 27.09.2004, Tbilisi 19:59:27.The USA will increase its military assistance to Georgia by three times, Georgian Defense Minister Georgy Baramidze told journalists after he returned from the USA where he had met with US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Assistant Secretary of State Elizabeth Jones. Baramidze did not specify the sum noting that an additional 4,000 servicemen would be trained using the US resources. As reported earlier, since 2003 the USA has allocated $64m on training 2,750 Georgian military men.

The USA will also pay salaries to Georgian peacekeepers in Iraq, which is about $600 per month. The Georgian Defense Minister said that the Georgian military contingent in Iraq would be enlarged considerably.

5. It's all about oil
and also controlling pipeline routes.

This is why it requires no tinfoil hat to believe what one Russian general openly stated and Putin also implied--that the CIA and MI6 contracted the massacre at the Beslan school.

One of the bloodiest Chechen leaders is in exile in the UK.

6. Short answer: Pipeline routes
Longer answer: It's part of the attempt to 'encircle' Russia with US client states and ultimately 'control' any petroleum-producing regions in Central Asia. (cf. PNAC, "Grand Chessboard" by Brzezinski).

The plan ain't workin out too well, though...

8. one word-Russia-
seems Georgie and the boys want a forward base in that area. unfortunately the Russians are very nervous about the USA being there since it changes the balance of power in that region. it would be the same if the chinese, russians,or iran would move troops and bases into canada or the mexican border....

13. As a Georgian,
I would personally like to nominate South Carolina. Ever been there? Psycho conservatives and they have bad roads.

And when I first read this headline, it didn't immediately dawn on me that they meant Russia. I was thinking to myself, WTF?? We don't need any more military here, we've got enough bases..... It's only Monday, I refuse to think until midday Tuesday. :P
