Plane diverted by bomb scare

A GREEK airliner bound for New York made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport in Ireland today because of a bomb threat - the second such incident involving the airline in three days.

The Olympic Airlines plane, carrying 295 passengers and 12 crew from Athens to New York, landed safely at Shannon Airport shortly after 5pm local time (2aM AEST Wednesday), Ireland's airport operating company Aer Rianta said.


The newspaper got a call at 1.45pm UK time (10.45pm AEST), saying a bomb was on board and would explode in an hour. Nothing has happened," said airline spokeswoman Melina Pitta.

"After a meeting it was decided the plane would make an emergency landing at Shannon as it was the nearest airport," she added.

Sort of points to what a ridiculous declaration of "war on terror" was. At least IMHO.

From that vantage point, who is really winning the war on terror? Which "side" is canceling/diverting flights, turning their world inside out, trampling upon their ideology of civil rights and way of life for the nuance of "safety"?
