U.S. Perception of Terror Threat Down -Survey
http://olympics.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=domesticNews&storyID=6349802

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Three years after the Sept. 11 attacks, Americans are feeling less vulnerable while remaining determined to fight terrorism, according to a survey released on Tuesday.

<snip>

But the latest survey showed a 10 percentage point drop in the number of Americans who view international terrorism as a "critical threat."

Concerning foreign policy goals, 78 percent said the government should protect the jobs of American workers, making it the top objective even above preventing the spread of nuclear weapons and fighting terrorism.

<snip>

When asked whether the U.S. government should put more emphasis on military methods, on diplomatic and economic methods, or whether it has the balance about right in the fight against terrorism, 45 percent of Americans said they would like to see more emphasis on diplomatic and economic methods.

<snip>

And 66 percent said that when dealing with international problems, the United States should be more willing to make decisions within the United Nations, even if it means going along with a policy that is not its first choice.

5. Mauve alert...
It means be scared, but not too scared to avoid going out and shopping.

But then there is the beige alert which means, be scared but only scared enough to buy up all the duct tape and plastic sheeting you can find.

Then finally, there is the maroon alert, which means to sit at home endlessly fliping through the News channels only to find there wasn't a real need to go on alert in the first place because the information is 10 years old.
