But the latest survey showed a 10 percentage point drop in the number of Americans who view international terrorism as a "critical threat."
Concerning foreign policy goals, 78 percent said the government should protect the jobs of American workers, making it the top objective even above preventing the spread of nuclear weapons and fighting terrorism.

When asked whether the U.S. government should put more emphasis on military methods, on diplomatic and economic methods, or whether it has the balance about right in the fight against terrorism, 45 percent of Americans said they would like to see more emphasis on diplomatic and economic methods.

And 66 percent said that when dealing with international problems, the United States should be more willing to make decisions within the United Nations, even if it means going along with a policy that is not its first choice.
