Teresa Heinz Kerry's outspokenness is particularly appealing to women voters, say South Central Texas Democrats as she planned a campaign fund-raiser for her husband. Organizers hope to raise at least $200,000 at Wednesday evening's $500-a-ticket event with the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, said Democrat Gilberto Ocanas.
The fund-raiser, which is closed to media representatives, was expected to attract about 300 people to the Alamo Heights home of Anthony Eugenio and Jane Schaefer Eugenio.
"We're really excited about it," said Schaefer Eugenio said. "With Texas being (President) Bush's state, we originally thought they weren't going to send anybody, so we're real happy she's coming."
Heinz Kerry's frank, unscripted style is refreshing to supporters, say area Democrats.
"I think she's brilliant, independent and I love the fact that she speaks her mind," Schaefer Eugenio told the San Antonio Express-News in Wednesday's online edition. "I think women love her."
