Ohio GOP woos Tennessee (GOP Sends Out 3 Million Absentee Ballot Apps)
The article's headline is a minor issue, the ballot application was sent to someone in TN who moved here from Ohio. What's in parentheses is the real wow.

Republicans in Ohio, a key battleground state in the upcoming presidential election, have mailed roughly 3.5 million absentee ballot applications to voters this season – a move that some John Kerry supporters call “immoral.”

Franklin resident Michael Wilson recently received three separate mail pieces - paid for by Bush-Cheney ’04 - criticizing Democratic nominee John Kerry. Enclosed in each were two applications for absentee ballots. One piece was addressed to Wilson, one to his spouse and another to the Wilson household, he said.

Wilson, who has lived in Franklin for more than three years, once lived in Summit County, Ohio. Each enclosed application was self-addressed to the Summit County Board of Elections in the county seat of Akron. Wilson’s name, according to the board, is still on registered voter lists there.

A spokesperson for the Ohio Republican Party says 3.5 million of the mail pieces were mailed to virtually every Ohio voter considered Republican or Independent in case they may be unable to reach the polls on Election Day.

1. nothing new here
Before we went to vote-by-mail here in Oregon, the Republicans routinely did this - mailed out absentee ballots to every registered Republican in the state.

6. Yes, but the add'l twist here is that they're mailing out-of-state, too...
... potentially, in an attempt to get a Bush vote registered in 2 states.

4. And yet, Republicans decry mail voting as 'fraud-prone'.
They would certainly know about that.

9. "we hope they are only voting in one state."
This is so disheartening. The republicans will stop at nothing to win. Nothing. We send out people to register nonvoters, and bring in 10x the repubs. Just as our hopes are soaring, they send out 3 million absentee ballots inviting dual votes from ex-Ohioans living in republicans states. They are just the lowest of the low. How can anyone possibly check this? You just hve to rely upon the honesty of people when they register in other states? This is horrible.
