Bush Document Details Military Departure
The Guardian

Thursday September 30, 2004 2:01 PM

By PETE YOST

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House said seven months ago that it had released all the records on President Bush's stateside military service during the Vietnam War, yet new records are still dribbling out as Election Day approaches.

The White House on Wednesday night produced a November 1974 document bearing Bush's signature from Cambridge, Mass., where he was attending Harvard Business School, saying he had decided not to continue as a member of the military reserve.

The document, signed a year after Bush left the Texas Air National Guard, said he was leaving the military because of ``inadequate time to fulfill possible future commitments.''

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the resignation was found in connection with a lawsuit brought by The Associated Press. The White House said the document had been in Bush's personnel file and that it had been found by the Pentagon.

3. I believe Commissioned Officers could always resign their commission
I don't know how that effects their service commitments though. I know exceptions are made for certain conditions but they are few and far between and need to be pretty impressive.

2. So are our big media networks afraid to talk about this now?
How can one just resign from their military commitment? The document was signed one year after he "left" the TANG. To cover his tracks, I guess.

13. CBS fails to address the fact...
... that hushing-up a story gives an advantage to the candidate being protected by the coverup. If the story is factual, then it should run... whenever it is ready to run; if the story isn't factual, it shouldn't run... now or ever.

CBS is now effectively colluding with the Bush Campaign in his reselection.

6. I don't understand. Does this mean that the National Guard members
in Iraq can send in their resignations because they have future commitments - like trying to stay alive?

7. Yeah.. why can't THEY come home??
Perhaps all they have to do is say that they're working on a campaign, or going to business school, and they can come home. Right? Perhaps an intrepid reporter can ask Bush if the Guard can come home now... if he did it, why can't they?

8. The White House did not answer whether Bush disobeyed a direct order
The last sentence says:

"The White House did not answer whether Bush disobeyed a direct order to take the exam."

Hmmm... at least they didn't lie.

11. Also a newspaper article describing other sources of old docs.
Connie read it this morning on cspan Washington Journal. I thought it was the WP, but I can't find it. She reads so many papers.

This column related all the different places old records are stored, like at the unit level, at the individual base level, and so on. "Neither candidate has authorized ALL these sources to release all their records."

It was like a lightbulb went off in my head. Why were we so quick to believe that the pentagon just couldn't find Lt. GW Bush's old records? I know, in the business world, records are kept at each sales office, at each division office, at the home office, and everywhere else in between. Of course Shrubs old records would still exist in several other locations other than the Pentagon. It seems you have to notify EACH location that you give the authority to release yours, or they remain private.
