CNN: Authorities warn of possible debate threats
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI warned authorities in Florida that Thursday's presidential debate at the University of Miami could be an attractive target for terrorists.

The agencies sent an assessment of potential terrorist threats and tactics to Florida Homeland Security Adviser and to the FBI's Miami field office.

"We do not have any specific information or intelligence to suggest that this first presidential debate is a target," a DHS official said, adding that there was no specific threat information against any of the debates. (Special Report: America Votes 2004, the debates)

The official said that the face-offs between President Bush and Democratic nominee John Kerry were symbolic events that terrorists might target in an effort to disrupt the elections. The warning, issued Monday, notes that southern Florida has been used as a base of operations and transit point by al Qaeda operatives and some of the 9/11 hijackers.

29. They should just invite Osama to participate
By satellite phone. It would be a ratings winner. I'm sure he'd have something to say, especially to the Chimp.

4. This is bullshit. Why are they saying anything at all if there's no
specific info? Are they expecting bush to bomb tonight? We all know when things go bad for Bush that the terror warnings go up

It makes his message even more "important": With me, you will be safer.

Some crazy people seem to believe it. Unbelievable.

15. That's it. It's a preemptive strike to cover for * disastrous performance
What more can they do? So, far the BFEE has:

Lowered expectations for * performance so that a chimp could beat him and he'd still be declared the winner.

Give Fox the right to televise all camera angles, lighting, reaction shots, etc.

Insisted on a "debate" format allows * to read pre-written "answers" off his teleprompter.

Sent a terra warning to, of all places, Florida, where people have a lot more to worry about than the government's stupid terror alerts. They're already dealing with an actual disaster, thank you very much.

6. Ha Ha If bush gets a hard question.......
A man in a nice suit with sunglasses on will run up on stage and whisper something to him. bush will politely excuse himself to deal with matters of national security.

12. He will pick up one buzz word and replay a prepared speech fragment
I think he has trained for every possible question or topic a short "speech" or line of argumentation and will just reproduce them (as long as his memory works more or less). Even if his learned speech does not match exactly the question.

Afterwards, one will "he is strong on leadership" and "he is the more likeable guy", "he has a good body language". Content does not matter.

36. A yellow alert means both candidates get to use crib notes.
I can see it now- Did Bush cheat while he was off camera. Kerry was roller blading and getting a quick tan. I guess the only way we'll know for sure is if Bush comes back on stage, and actually sounds like he has a brain.
Maybe they should the terrorists should be given their own venue.

Sorry, my attempts to be witty have failed miserably. :)

11. If he starts performing badly and goes off-script

a 'credible' threat will be called into the authorities and the debate will come to a screaming halt to 'protect the President'.

From what will be another matter, however ...

13. Translation: The coWard's handlers might be witnessing a meltdown
& they're worried the coWard won't be able to shake it off in time for the debate. This report is for insurance purposes.

"We do not have any specific information or intelligence to suggest that this first presidential debate is a target," a DHS official said, adding that there was no specific threat information against any of the debates.

If that's the case, why is it being reported?

18. Ooh, how about this crazy Rovian scenario
FBI agents dressed as terrorists storm the debates. The FOX cameras record Bush, who's aware that it's fake, standing proud and defiant while Kerry is quickly escorted out of the building by the secret service. Crazy I know, but they would if they could.

23. This BS reminds me of the 50's when there was a communist
around every corner and under every bed!

Some things do scare me too, but they're real likely things, like ttrying to drive I85 through Atlanta, putting a Dem bumper sticker on my new car and having it keyed, and my house making it though the next hurricane without damage.

Miami is a terrorist hotbed. But we're not talking al Qaeda terrorists. It's the Cuban ones that I'm worried about. Has anyone seen Roger Stone tonight? I'd be keeping an eye on him and his buddies if I was HS.
