Army Gets Creative to Meet Recruiting Goals
Army Gets Creative to Meet Recruiting Goals

By Kimberly Hefling The Associated Press
Published: Sep 30, 2004

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Meet Staff Sgt. Chad Cloutier: part counselor, part personal trainer, part teacher's aide.
He is an Army recruiter with an arsenal that includes offers of more than $70,000 in college aid and $20,000 in bonus money, a black "Army of One" motorcycle parked outside his office, and a laptop that plays hip recruiting footage in potential recruits' homes.

With its troops stretched thin by the war in Iraq, the Army is rolling out the heavy artillery to sign up recruits.

Cloutier, 31, of Boston has helped administer standardized tests at an area high school, exercised with potential and new recruits, and made follow-up calls to struggling college students. Cloutier's office is like many of the Army's approximately 1,700 recruiting stations: new, strategically placed near a shopping mall, and outfitted with modern furniture. Some potential recruits stop by just to hang out, and the recruiters work to create a welcoming atmosphere

On edit ---They conveniently forget to mention that they are puppets and lapdogs of Halliburton et al. One of my relatives got real angry when one of these snake oil salemen kept calling her house during dinner. Her son was a senior in HS

2. Remember the recruiters from F911?
Recruiters have many enticements, and no obligation to tell the truth. For any folks thinking about signing up, be sure to be 100% truthful and straightforward in all your dealings with the military. Don't believe a recruiter who tells you, for example, to just leave off your application that minor arrest you had back when you were 17. Because when it comes time for the military to deliver on its promises to you, they will comb your entire record back to day one for any reason to screw you out of it.

11. Oh my God, that's so very wrong...
...on so many levels. I would have to gag her. If Fred Gwynn and the AFLAC duck fucked, had a kid, and beat the crap out of it for most of it's life, it would be Ann Coulter.

8. Retention Troubles Lead Pentagon to Seek Options
All Things Considered audio

All Things Considered, September 29, 2004 · The National Guard has not met its recruitment goal for the fiscal year that ends Thursday, a failure it blames on current lengthy deployments. The Pentagon is seeking ways to reduce the strain on the National Guard and other forces. NPR's Eric Westervelt reports.

Iraqi Force to Total 145,000 by January, Myers Says (Update2) Listen
Sept. 28 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Richard Myers said 145,000 Iraqi National Guard and police will be trained and equipped by January, alleviating the need for more U.S. troops in the country.

``Recruitment for police, army, the Iraqi National Guard, people are still signing up in large numbers,'' Myers said in an interview. ``A lot of Iraqis are putting their lives on the line.''

So far, the U.S. has trained about 32,880 Iraqi security forces, while 82,000 have been hired, according to the U.S. Defense Department. U.S. recruiters also are meeting their goals, with the exception of the Army National Guard, which may fall short of its 2004 target, Myers said. ``We're ok for now, what we have to worry about is next year and the year after that,'' Myers said.

The interim Iraqi government of Prime Minister Ayad Allawi has ceded control of several cities, including regional capitals, to insurgents. Coalition and Iraqi forces will retake these areas, including cities such as Falluja, Ramadi and Samarra, before national elections planned for January, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said on Sunday.

There are 138,000 U.S. troops in Iraq, 8,300 from the U.K. and 3,600 from South Korea. Authority will be handed over to Iraqi forces as soon as possible, said Myers, because U.S. forces are ``only welcome for so long'' in Iraq, he said.

Raise pay $10,000 a year across the board.

12. Recruitment should start with the Bush Youth
Recruiters need to go to college campuses to a Young Repukes meeting and shame those cocky war-supporting, Bush boot lickers in to walking the walk. Whenever I see one of those cocky self-righteous &*%$# on TV I'd like to hand them a signup form. They're like their fearless leader-chickenhawks to the core.
