FDA Says Intercepted Canadian Drugs Unsafe
WASHINGTON - The government said Tuesday that intercepted drugs purportedly sent from Canada were made and shipped elsewhere, had been subject to Canadian recall and had cheaper generic counterparts in the United States.

The Food and Drug Administration (news - web sites) said the 439 packages prescription drugs were ordered by Americans from the Web site www.CanadaRx.net.

Customs agents in Miami intercepted the drugs that they said had been shipped from CanadaRx's office in the Bahamas.

None appeared to have been made in the United States. Many had unstated dosages and suspicious labels. Some appeared to have been made in Singapore, Japan and New Zealand.

Fully half had generic equivalents for sale cheaper here, William Hubbard, FDA (news - web sites) associate commissioner for policy and planning, wrote in a letter sent to Rep. Bernard Sanders (news, bio, voting record), I-Vt., and four other members of Congress.

"What we're trying to paint in this letter is a series of ... abnormalities," Hubbard said.

1. Yep, haven't you heard...those Canadians are dying
like flies up there ingesting all those horrible faux drugs. My word, hardly a day goes by that there isn't a banner headline about the droves of dead folks in Canada.

3. Did you bother reading the story?
These weren't Canadian drugs, they were supplied by a scam outfit based in the Bahamas.

5. You're right. I didn't respond to the story.
I did a kneejerk response to the Admisistration's insistence that Canadian drugs are bad for 'muricans. Sorry.

8. Uh....
... that "scam outfit" has been in the biz for a long time and only moved offshore in response to legal changes.

As for the FDA story, I'd have to see every bit of the evidence and a series of hundreds of affidavits of fact signed in blood before I would believe it.

Hubbard has about as much credibility as the average Repuke, i.e., none.
