US has strategy to retake Iraqi towns
US military planners have identified 20 to 30 towns and cities in Iraq that must be brought under control before nationwide elections can be held in January, The New York Times reported.

Citing unnamed senior officials, the newspaper said the Pentagon has also devised detailed ways of deciding which ones should be early priorities.

Recent military operations to quell the Iraqi insurgency in Tal Afar, Samarra and south of Baghdad are the first and most visible signs of the new, six-pronged strategy for Iraq, approved at the highest levels of the Bush administration, the report said.

But officials involved in creating the plan acknowledge that US forces face an extraordinarily difficult task and that success is far from guaranteed, according to the Times.

1. US has strategy to retake Iraqi towns

Err....Uhh... Shouldn't you have a strategy before you have a war.

3. But the war is over, isn't it?
No WMD, Saddam can no longer "practice his love" on the Iraqi people and his neighbors, his sons dead, no ties to Al-Qaeda, no nucular program...

Ah, fuck - my head hurts...

4. It's not essential, if You're On A Holy Mission For God.
Bush has taught us that if only you are bold and resolute enough ("for none of woman born, can harm George Bush") you can rush into a war blindly and win, no matter what your reason for it was (assuming you had one at all). He was the good crusader, they were the evil heathens, so of course he must succeed, exit strategy or no.

He shouldn't show signs of weakness and uncertainty now, so close to the elections, by stopping to think about a strategy. Charge on! America needs a strong Führer now!

2. If the "strategy" is anything like they had for Samarra, and Tal Afar

they may just as well be saying they'll get rid of every iraqi that gets in the way of GWB's obsessive tantrum about a "free and democratic" iraq!

today i read an article that openly called it "mass extermination" and i wept, ranting "that's what it is! that's the word for it!" wondering how i had been protecting myself from using those very words all this time.
i've thought of it as massacres, atrocities, and wailed. but the word extermination... about our country, in supposedly modern, so-called civilized times!

o help them!!

keep on, all!

peace
