BOCA RATON — Tapping into South Florida's rich vein of Jewish voters, former presidential spinmeister Ari Fleischer on Tuesday depicted his ex-boss as the protector and guardian angel of Israel.
"Israel and the American Jewish community have never had a better friend in the Oval Office than George W. Bush," Fleischer, the former White House spokesman, said at a gathering of local Jewish voters.
Although some issues — gays, affirmative action, abortion, prayer — are claimed exclusively by one party, Israel-loving is up for grabs in this election, with President Bush's campaign heavily courting the Jewish vote in Palm Beach County this week.
On Monday, the president spoke at a $25,000-a-head dinner at developer Ned Siegel's home in the Woodfield Country Club, west of Boca Raton.
