¡¡BAGHDAD, Oct. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Five US soldiers were wounded in a car bombing near a US armored vehicle in the northern Iraqi city ofMosul on Friday, a US military spokesman said.

The attack occurred as the vehicle was returning to a US military base after operations near Mosul, the spokesman said.

The spokesman denied that the US soldiers had entered a mosque in the city, saying that the Iraqi National Guards came under rocket and mortar fire as they arrested suspected car bomb makers who were praying at the mosque.

Earlier, witnesses said that a shooting broke out as US soldiersand members of the Iraqi National Guards tried to enter a mosque inMosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad.
