CIA leaked military corruption--Pimentel

THE US Central Intelligence Agency may have had a hand in the disclosure to the Philippine media of the corruption case against Maj. Gen. Carlos Garcia.

Quoting an informant, Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel yesterday raised this intriguing prospect concerning the scandal that had been rocking the administration of President Macapagal-Arroyo.

"According to my informant, the Garcia case happened more than six months ago but was not publicized because Gloria (Ms Arroyo) was still siding in the war against Iraq," Pimentel told reporters at the Westin Philippine Plaza hotel in Pasay City, where he and other senators are attending a two-day reform workshop.

But when Ms Arroyo pulled the Philippine contingent from Iraq in July to meet the demand of Iraqi insurgents holding truck driver Angelo de la Cruz hostage, the Americans apparently got mad at her, Pimentel said, quoting his source.

"I'm getting information that the CIA is involved here," the senator said, although he stressed that he had no proof to back this information.
