Rhode Island Senator to Stay Republican
Filed at 10:04 a.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee, who flirted with changing political parties in the wake of President Bush's re-election victory, says he will stay in the GOP.

``My Republican colleagues have let me know that they want me in their caucus,'' the Rhode Island senator said Monday. ``They value the voice I bring and they have made it very clear to me that they respect and want that voice to be heard.''

4. Enablers are worse than the perpetrators
These so-called "moderates" like Giuliani or Specter or Powell or Chafee, they are worse than the radical reactionaries with whom they supposedly disagree. They are exploited as a phony facade of open-mindedness and inclusiveness when what they really do is provide cover for the Puritanical right. At least the fanatics believe in what they're doing. Chafee's as hypocritcal as Zell Miller from the other side.

5. But the GOP's a BIG TENT...
...so long as you are a mod repub who doesn't mind spouting a positions with the realization that the party will trample on them. That's what I love--repubs with integrity.

His are usually protest votes. If he were to switch he should just go independent.

7. I agree. Its not like he is decided to
vote with the Conservatives now. As long as he keeps voting with the Democrats on major issues I don't really see the problem.
