Eyewitness: Ghost city calls for help
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4008887.stm

As US-led troops battle rebels in the Iraqi city of Falluja, aid agencies have warned that civilians are left with little food and no drinking water. The BBC News website spoke by phone to Fadhil Badrani, an Iraqi journalist and resident of Falluja who reports regularly for Reuters and the BBC World Service in Arabic.

We are publishing his and other eyewitness accounts from the city in order to provide the fullest possible range of perspectives from those who are there:

A family came to me last night, asking if I knew anywhere they could get hold of some food. snip

When people in Falluja feel the world is not interested in their fate, they start asking if the media is doing its job.

A father who lost two children in the bombing wanted to know if everything I was reporting was actually being broadcast.

2. And where are WE?
Where is the anti-war movement? Why no demonstrations? Our country committing war crimes, and we do nothing. I do not exempt myself: we have a small dedicated group here who protest every Mon...it seems I never "make it." Well, I will make it there tomorrow, with my little grandaughter in tow (child care is what has kept me absent, but no more...I'll take her along).

9. I was at an anti-war rally yesterday
About 100-200 people were there (Edmonton, Canada). Joe MacDonald of Country Joe and the Fish was there, and provided great music. So, there have been some sporadic demonstrations.

I can't blame anti-war people for being discouraged after all that has happened, especially the recent U.S. election. But, I think people will pick themselves up and go back into the anti-war fray. No choice really - it is self defense as much as altruism, the way things are developing.

I went to two scheduled antiwar protests last week, and nobody
showed up - so I've been making midnite runs putting up "Stop the War"
posters @ train stations , supermarkets, conctruction sites ect. I
should make another run tonite.

3. The people who stayed behind were told to stay in their homes

and now the "troops" are doing a house to house search -- and apparently murdering or arresting all the males and/or murdering the children (from earlier stories & photos today). So no wonder the Americans in charge of this mess have told the aid workers -- no one is left to feed -- it seems that the US troops are going to make damned sure no one is left.

Back in the early 70s I spent a summer in Europe -- and the hatred toward the Germans was still evident in many countries that had been occupied by the German's during the war. Hateful things were said about German tourists. Now the same will be said about Americans -- Ugly Americans. Because Europe will get photos & video and narrative of the survivors of the destruction of Iraq. The Europeans already know that there were no WMD -- and that Saddam is in US custody and that the US puppet of Iraq is an assassin.

Well that is one way to rig an election -- murder the voters. It is a forgone conclusion who the victor will be in January -- whoever the bushies choose. Their's will be the only vote that counts -- just like the 2 November election here.

The time is coming to kneel down to King George or get the hell out of Dodge City.

4. No! It is time to fight. Fight the war. Fight the election "results" and
every battle harder and stronger. I know that your post was sarcastic and that hell will freeze over before you kiss the ass of a dimson. Hang in there.

7. It is discouraging --
I can see how the GOP is so dominate in Florida -- they control all the votes.

That could happen throughout the US -- and I don't see the democatic leadership doing much of anything.

11. They never lead. The people are always the ones who have to lead.
Yes is is discouraging. I feel discouraged too. But it is less discouraging here than in Iraq. Crash when you need to, but hang on. We need you.

5. Don, what is Iraqi Ham Radio saying?
Surely there is a station in Falluja. What frequencies might we hear Iraq Ham Radio? This is a total cluster-fuck. I am appalled and depressed.

6. How do we
get the media to report the truth about the iraq war? There must be something that can be done.

8. The media is totally compromised.
I'm looking for direct reports from ham radio operators in Iraq. As a ham operator I am limited as to the questions I can ask on an international contact, but I can listen to anything they want to say!

CQ, CQ, CQ. Post frequencies here.

12. NPR reported this morning
that the city is basically demolished. I bet the citizens are so happy to be liberated -- only to starve to death or die from the elements.
