Dowd: Swifties Slime Again
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/24/opinion/24dowd.html?hp=&pagewanted=print&position=

Instead of trying to destroy AARP, Republicans should be signing up the seniors' lobby to find Osama.

AARP's super-relentless intelligence network is certainly better than that doddering C.I.A's. Osama has to have turned 50, and AARP somehow knows where everyone who has turned 50 lives.

But no. The same Republicans who used to love AARP when it helped them pass the president's prescription drug plan now hate AARP because it is against the president's plan to privatize Social Security.

"They are the boulder in the middle of the highway to personal savings accounts," said Charlie Jarvis, the president of USA Next, a conservative lobbying group. "We will be the dynamite that removes them." He sounded more like Wile E. Coyote than a former interior official in the Reagan and Bush I administrations. "They can run, but they can't hide," he said. But the walker-and-cane set is hard to picture in the Road Runner role.

8. Do not underestimate these scumbags
Kerry's campaign people underestimated the dishonored *WIFT*OAT malcontents and chose to try and ignore the emerging storm. It did not work and the dishonored *wifties quickly picked up traction in the biased conservative media (read: MSM).

Do we allow this to happen again? I hope not.

I read in USA TODAY that *ush is desperately trying to find one (just one) Democrat to support his SSI scam so he can claim bi-partisanship. Yesterday USA TODAY reported *ush hate groups plan on spending 10's of millions to convince the lambs that they must be lead to slaughter with the *ush SSI scam.

So what are we going to do about it?

Are we as dems going to sit back and hope for the best or are we going to go all out to protect AARP from these despicable tactics? DU has hundreds of thousands of users who can flood the phone banks of any wavering dem... we need to get down and dirty here folks and throw the same tactics back at these conservatives.

Conservatives are like dogs. You show fear and they will come at you more. You stand up to them and they slink away into the shadows like coakroaches.

Let us not wait until the spineless congressional dems cave and hand *ush another victory and then bitch about it afterwards. Do not allow these dishonored SWIFTBOAT consultants to control the agenda. Throw their same tactics right back in their faces! Remember one thing for those of you who think we need to take the "high road" just think what that high road has gotten us since 2000. Nothing. Conservatives will take their "SSI victory" and spend millions to defeat dems in the 2006 mid-terms who supported it --- just ask Mary Landreau what her high road got her...

I am doing my part to defeat this SSI scam. Are you?

BTW: I read in Newsweek that while we are fighting this SSI scam the corrupt conservatives plan on going after food-stamps next... could SSI be a giant ruse? Tort Reform (yeah right) was pushed through in record time with the help of spineless congressional Democrats...

5. A Reckoning...
This 'swift' bunch needs to find out that there are consequences for the slime they spread over the landscape. That regardless of the lame response from MSM and the support they get from their equally slimy enablers like Bob "Fake-brow" Novak, ultimately they need to expect that someday, somebody, will get even. I can't wait. The only thing I can't decide is just what punishment would be adequate?

7. Boycott these slimebags
We need to find out how to hurt these 3 businesses listed below by bocotting their products/services and making sure they know it too. Thats the only way to get these slimebags attentions.

From the USA Next website:
Rick Reed, a partner at Stevens Reed Curcio & Potholm, a firm that was hired by Swift Vets and was paid more than $276,000 to do media production, records show.
http://srcpmedia.com/corp.html

For public relations, USA Next has turned to Creative Response Concepts, a Virginia firm that represented both Swift Vets -- the company was paid more than $165,000 -- and Regnery Publishing, the publisher of 'Unfit for Command,' a book about Senator John Kerry's military service whose co-author was John E. O'Neill, one of the primary leaders of Swift Vets.

6. Well, I don't know about AARP's intelligence gathering efforts.

While I was employed by the state and paying into an alternative retirement plan, they seemed to think that just because I wasn't paying Social Security that I was retired.

They kept sending me recruitment mail and free newsletters.

I'm 33. :-)

9. Turnabout's fair play
Let's provoke the right wing bloggers by having a picture of Jarvis knocking down and old lady (walker and all) and underneath have the text read "Is this how you honor your parents?"

10. Slimebag Corsi is coming out with new book
lying that Dems are linked to Mullahs in Iran and are selling out U.S.

After their bitter campaign 2004 experience with the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, John Kerry and his fellow Dems aren't waiting to be shot at again.

Yesterday, aides to Sens. Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Ted Kennedy jumped all over literary mugger Jerome Corsi, co-author of the Kerry-bashing best seller "Unfit for Command."

They knocked him to the ground and kicked him in the face (metaphorically, anyway) over his next Democrattrashing tome, "Atomic Iran: How the Terrorist Regime Bought the Bomb and American Politicians."

The book - which Nashville's Cumberland House Publishing won't release till next month - claims Democratic pols are being corrupted by Iranian money and helping the nuke-seeking mullahs in Tehran.

But Kerry spokesman David Wade told me yesterday: "I doubt anyone who isn't wearing a tin-foil hat will take their foreign-policy cues from a proven liar who became infamous smearing the Pope, Catholics, Jews and Vietnam veterans."

And YOU helped, by falling for every Bushevik lie since the 90s.

NOW you wake up, eh? Too late, MoDo.

Too late by far for all of us.

Thanks for nothing Ms. Too Little and YEARS too late.

12. "AARP, the gigantic special interest...does wield undue influence"
Certainly, AARP, the gigantic special interest flush with money, probably does wield undue influence and certainly can be an obstacle to public policy, sticking up too much for what their critics call "greedy geezers."

Just what is the proper amount of influence for this growing percentage of Americans? Should it be more or less than the private fund mgrs who would be the real beneficiaries of bush's scheme?

More SSA benefits are paid to minors and the disabled than to seniors. After the RX fiasco, that the AARP has their head on straight over this one is a relief.
