"He wanted excitement; he got excrement." St. Pete Times
Dirty deal

Antony Lineberger went to the war zone to drive a gas tanker, make some real money, help his country. He wanted excitement; he got excrement.

TREASURE ISLAND - On his first day at work, they issued him body armor. They taught him how to duct-tape his helmet to keep out deadly gas. They told him about pit vipers and poisonous spiders, warned him about microscopic sand fleas whose bite could kill him.

They made him choose a code word in case he got captured.

But no one told him about the toilets.

2. I really tried hard not to laugh...
especially since the guy was not a Republican...but this story is funny as...well...shit!

Years ago, jobs like this were reserved for the "least among us" (meaning minorities and/or the very, very poor and destitute.) Today it is possible to earn $85,000 cleaning modern outhouses.

4. Libertarians are extreme Republicans that also enjoy pot.

On edit: What a fitting end for a Libertarian! That's precisely the kind of world they support, and don't even realize it. A world without regulation and a world without consumer protections will ensure that MENSA students will be capable of ending up in the shithouse! LOL!

7. OMG! You are so right!
I had not even really given thought to how this fits in with the Libertarian perfect world.

(It's perfect as long as I am not the one shovelin' shit...):)

3. He talks about Honduras as if it's Eden.................
it's the poorest country in Central America and he's going to have his expectations shattered again if he goes there. Poor Mexicans live like Kings compared to poor Hondurans.
I'm not buying his "make a little money, see the world. help his country" line. He thought he was going to get rich in Afghanistan and return home in a few years and retire. There are many people with the same dream.
The problem is, he was caught in the same "bait and switch" as the Army uses for their recruits. Promise you an education, learn a trade, see foreign countries, 3 hots and a cot, medical, dental.........next thing you know you're humping a sixty pound pack across a desert in blistering heat, sand in every crevice of your body, with little brown men in turbans taking pot shots at you all the way. Hey, this is NOT what I signed up for. Too bad, you signed the contract and took the bonus, now go search that bombed out building.
I'm shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you, that Halliburton or our government would LIE to us! Heh, heh......welcome to the world of corporate global domination. What you see is definitely not what you get.
At least he made it out alive. But if I were him, I'd forget about that "garden of eden" he was promised in Honduras as well. Tampa isn't all that bad of a place to live. I've lived there.

5. About those prisoners missing the toilet:
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 08:36 AM by The Backlash Cometh

This was a Taliban POW camp. More than 60 prisoners are held at Camp Stronghold Freedom.

For every two dozen men, there is a portable toilet. But no one uses it.

Out of protest, out of custom, out of disrespect for their captors - for whatever reason - the Taliban men refuse to sit on the camp toilets. "They squat over them and miss the hole with about half of it," Lineberger e-mailed his sister.
- - - -

Toilets in the middle east are different than American ones. In some ways, they're more hygienic because no part of the body touches the receptacle. What they do is stand on two stumps, squat, and do their thing. Then, they wash their hands with soap that they usually carry around with them.

They must think that American toilets are poorly designed.

6. Exactly - you would think that they could at least get the toilet design
right. But the "private sector" does everything better, right? So he must be mistaken. I am sure the toilets are working out fine. He must hate freedom to be so negative.
