Are we on course or trapped in a swamp? Rumors of Rumsfeld resignation ...
Are we on course or trapped in a swamp?

October 10, 2005

A truly horrible summer that seemed unending finally is fading away, and the cold winds of reality are blowing down the collars of a president and the key players in his administration. Those winds could foretell an even more terrible winter ahead.

The word in Washington and in the halls of the Pentagon is that Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld is seriously considering handing in his resignation sometime this month.

The generals who run the war in Iraq -- Central Command boss Gen. John Abizaid and ground commander Gen. George Casey -- came to town last week and let slip the awful truth about our efforts to stand up an Iraqi army and security force.

1. He already tried that.
Rummy offered to resign before, but Boy George refused to accept his resignation.

17. Well, that's what he claimed...
But the man is such a complete bullshitter, one never knows what to take seriously.

6. Wouldn't you love your legacy to be that you broke a foreign nation
and sent it into civil unrest that will last decades and cost thousands of lives?

I think I'd resign and go hide under a rock.

15. Yup, the old boy really is starting to look aged.
I saw some recent photos of him. He looks like a tired and haggard old man who has absolutely nothing to feel good about.

I bet he WISHES he could just bag it and go home. After all, the old bloodsucker is worth about $150 million. He wants to spend some of that dough! He's earned it by now - all the crony contracts he gave to Titan and CACI, for God's sake. Enough is enough.

He's going on 75. Can't they do without him, for God's sake?

9. He'll have more time to go boating on the Chesapeake Bay?
The going has got tough. I'm sure there will be a cleaning out of the Republican Party soon.

13. Rummy is probably getting out of Dodge before
the torture pictures are released. Won't matter though, he's still responsible as well as Bush, Gonzales and the generals who implimented them.

14. Dissasociation before the Fitzgerald indictments?
Cheney's prepped the "hospital defense." Condi recently apparently expressed a disagreement. Now Rummy is rumoured to be readying a resignation.

Maybe Bush is about to be set up to take the fall?

16. I think we're going to hit a trifecta: Rove, Rumsfeld, and Cheney
Between Abu Ghraib videos and Patrick Fitzgerald, heads are going to roll.
