LAT: NYT Story on Leak Raises Questions (lengthy, major story)
New York Times Story on Leak Raises Questions
An article meant to clarify coverage of the Valerie Plame case has prompted concern over a veteran reporter and the paper's leadership.

By James Rainey, Times Staff Writer

A story published by the New York Times on Sunday to clarify its coverage of the Valerie Plame leak case has instead raised a series of new questions and complaints about veteran reporter Judith Miller and her supervisors in the long-running controversy.

Critics inside the paper and in the wider journalism community said Monday that they found particularly disturbing the revelation that the newspaper's editors seemed unable to control Miller and that the reporter agreed to use a misleading identification to shield the identity of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff.

The Pentagon also raised doubts about Miller's contention that she had a special security clearance that allowed her to report on the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Some critics were particularly harsh, noting that the 57-year-old Miller's work had been questioned before....

"I don't know why she was allowed to do all these things and where the people were who were supposed to manage her," said one Times reporter, who asked not to be named out of concern of antagonizing the paper's editors....

1. Little Miss Run Amok 2005
I hope she goes to hell and takes the NYT's editors with her.

Time to clean house and start over.

2. Miller story sets off reverberation in the media echo chamber...
Unfortunately, until Fitz' does something or let's the clock expire, we are going to be reading stories about stories and editorials about stories and stories about editorials.

In this climate we need to be careful not to read too much into all this. We know very little. What we know is mostly the story the potential defendents want us to know.

I hope the walls of my padded cell cut down on all the noise

3. NYT and Miller propaganda machine exposed!
And it is about fucking time I would say. How come we all knew they were printing horse shit two years years ago and everyone else is playing catch up now? Every Judy piece on WMD was debunked here on DU and in the foreign press almost immediately!

Whatever else will happen will be the cherry on top.
But "liberal" NYT has led the Clinton hunt, the Gore smearing, attacking Clark the drum to war and was always part of the dirtiest plans to influence those who THOUGHT knew better. I was always warning them against believing "the paper" and now I can finally say: "I told you so"

5. Real newspapers like The Guardian and The Independent
debunked all of the horseshit we were being fed by the MSM, particularly the NY Times and Washington Post uncritical reporting of the Administration's propaganda about Iraq. The Guardian debunked Colin Powell's speech to the UN while his seat at the Security Council was still warm!

Let's not forget either how the NY Times bad-mouthed peace marchers and how they buried all the stories that were questioning the WMD claims by the Bush regime.

6. I found these bits interesting. I hadn't heard the Pentagon was
was questioning Miller's assertion that she had a security clearance.

The Pentagon also raised doubts about Miller's contention that she had a special security clearance that allowed her to report on the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
...
Abrams, the lawyer, said he believed Miller had a "secret," but not a "top secret" clearance.

But senior Pentagon officials said Monday that Miller did not receive a security clearance as part of her embedding, which came as the U.S. searched for weapons after the conclusion of the major initial combat.

Things are going to get pretty interesting from here on out. Her accounting in the NYT left much to be desired and raised more questions that it answered. I hope little Miss Run Amok gets nailed with perjury and/or obstruction charges.

9. But it wasn't her alone ...
All the MSM supported Bush and his bandits. No one tried to expose what everyone knew was there. Yes, Judas and the Times made some huge, possibly unethical, mistakes, but the rest of the media's job is to expose that kind of thing.

Why didn't they?
