New York Times’ Safire predicts “major terror attack in the US” on eve of
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2004/jan2004/saf-j03.shtml

In a column published December 31, New York Times columnist William Safire blandly predicts that the “‘October surprise’ affecting our <2004> election” will be “a major terror attack in the US.”

This ominous prognostication is given in passing as one of 16 predictions about the new year, in a piece carrying the semi-jocular headline, “Office Pool, 2004.” Safire, Richard Nixon’s former speechwriter and political aide, and a consummate Washington insider, neither explains nor elaborates on his prediction, and gives no sources. But the off-hand manner in which he posits a major attack on US soil “affecting” the presidential election suggests he is merely echoing a common theme of discussions in the corridors of power of the American capital.

In the column, Safire lists 16 topics, ranging from “the next tyranny to feel the force of US liberation” to the winner of the Oscar award for best picture of 2004. Under each topic, he gives three or four alternatives, and in the concluding paragraph reveals his “picks.” In regard to Israeli policy in the new year—item number 16—he says of his prediction: “This last one is pure unsourced thumb-sucking; Sharon didn’t return my call.”

Now, WHY would "Al Qaeda" do such a thing on the eve of the
selections? :eyes: I mean seriously....unless, of course, they would
like to see shrub and his minions re-elected, no?
I tell you folks...they're "prepping the sheeple" up for another
staged event. Imagine: IF such an attack were to take place, and it
will if its staged, martial law would be imposed...and...the
elections would be postponed do to "national emergency". They can't
have elections...

3. Hoping for another "attack"....
We have to make the assumption that the first "attack" was what they
claim it to be... :eyes: No?
Think about that before we start talking about the next "attack".

5. No "Hoping" about it . . .
. . . when they control all the avenues that make it appear to be so.

Perception is everything. Perceived fear can send voters to the ballot box to support the "Great Leader."

Ugh.

6. I have read this to
I have heard this before and that Al Qaeda is actually hoping for Bush to be elected this year. Bin Laden/Al Qaeda's larger goal is incitement of the Arab against the US and western world into a major conflict and overthrowing leaders in Muslim nations that support the US (Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt). Bush's arrogance and antagonistic actions is playing right into bin Laden's hands. Bin Laden wanted Hussein out of power and the Americans in Iraq as much as Bush wanted to go in. An attack on US soil would rally support around shrub and provoke him to respond in a rash and reckless manner that would be essentially throwing gasoline into the fire that is the Middle East. I hope I'm wrong about this but it sounds frighteningly possible.

7. Look....I STIIL don't believe in OBL....
much like Orwell's character in 1984 calling into doubt the
existance of Emmanuel Goldstein...or hypothesizing that "big brother"
and Goldstein were either 1) one and the same or 2) in league with
each other in order to continue the iron grip that they had over
the masses.
The similarities are there...

13. When i re-read Animal Farm last year I changed Snowball and Neopolian
to SH and OBL. I swear the GOP are using Orwell as a freaking "how to" guide. It is very scary. But In order for a dictator to be effective he has to have the millitary on his side, and from what I have gathered the millitary is plenty pissed with Bu$h these days.

8. "Muslim nations that support the US"....We may want to keep an eye
on ISLAMABAD, Pakistan today thru Tuesday.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A50664-2004Jan2.html
South Asia Nations Move Toward Free-Trade Zone

The impoverished nations of South Asia agreed Friday on the framework for a free-trade zone that would encompass one-fifth of the world's population, a step that could deepen the improving relations between nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan.
snip>
National leaders will review the accord when they meet Sunday through Tuesday in the Pakistani capital, where security is extraordinarily tight in the wake of two assassination attempts last month against President Gen. Pervez Musharraf.

The summit of the seven-nation South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation is the first since a meeting in Nepal in January 2002. That gathering took place amid deep acrimony a month after an attack on India's Parliament that New Delhi blamed on Pakistan-backed Islamic militants. Pakistan denied the allegations.

9. they'd LOVE to see Bush re-selected
because they know that his foreign policy is SO bad, that he's pissing off everyone in the world, especially making recruitment for them much easier.

That said, if this does come to pass I will have no doubt that it is the doing of the Bushies themselves. They have shown that they will stop at nothing to get and keep power...

10. By invading Arab nations, we are helping with Al Qaeda's recruiting.
Bush is the best thing to happen to Al Qaeda. By making the "war on terror" a war on WMD, Tyrants or whatever the excuse is at the moment, Bush only angers the region more making it more volatile. A real "war on terror" would be conducted through international police/intelligence and covert Special Ops.

15. Not unless you are an evil, traitorous, *gasp* liberal
The official administration line will be that the traitorous dems prevented *, asscroft et al from putting into effect the full protections (such as original Patriot2) that we so desperately needed to prevent another terror attack. In other words blame the dems, and Clinton's penis too if it can be worked into the speech. The situation will be so dire that there will have to be an immediate instituting of martial law in order to make all the changes needed to protect the "Land of the unFree"

...by the proprietary fronts crowd. You know the guys who stuff ballot boxes with absentee ballots, and sabatoge exit voting? The same people who have mobile bio-warfare defense vans and hire contractors to "experiment" sending "fake anthrax" through the mail. The companies who acquire the company where the first anthrax victim was killed and who rent to Mohammed Atta and company- you know who I mean. How about the fly by night airline companies in south Florida touted by JebFRAUD who make their money importing narcotics and giving flight lessons to terrorists. They never booked a single passenger! These ring knockers are preparing contingencies all the time. It isn't a free country anymore. They operate with total impunity. All investigations into these matters when they occur are little more than tired and cynical exercises in obstruction of justice.

The notion that the CIA isn't a part of the BFEE is nonsense as well. The analysts aren't part of it. The operators and their fronts are a completely different matter. Many of the defense contractors are permeated. These people are totally unaccountable. Hell the people watching these people in Congress are in cahoots with them.

18. Fear is what gives men wings. (and presidents votes)
This whole "rasing the awareness in the country" is a load of political jargon and crap designed to get votes. I bet that the curret "state of emergency" will be kept much the same untill the elections, just to keep people turning to their leader to give support to his "redneck" war on "terrorism". The Bush administration has effectively has made sure everyone is dead afraid that they will be killed in a terrorist attack!.

I think people honestly need to start to think more. It is so
INCREDIBLY unlikely that YOU will be caught in the midst of terrorist attack. (heck its more likely to catch SARS!)

I will go as far as to say that before the elections of '04: There be a "terrorist" attack, that will truly shock the public.

The catch is this "terrorist" attack may not be by Al-Quida (or any other terrorist organization for that matter) but by the Bush Administration it's self. Think about it, they have virtually unchallenged control over all information outlets (and even unbiased information outlets have to get their information from somewhere like the police or CIA -all of which are controlled by the government.) It would make perfect sence for the Bush Administration to cook up some kind of new 9/11 to give them an excuse to continue their insane crusade to convert the world to christianity and to establism a "free" market economy where countries are run by inane US appointed "monkeys".

Mark my words

yes i think i went too far with that one. but it was worth cleaning off my concience.
