Congressional Monkeys See no Evil
Congressional Monkeys See no Evil
Submitted by davidswanson on Fri, 2007-10-05 20:24. Congress

By Bob Fantina

It appears that the Congressional Democrats have decided not to put on blinders, but blindfolds. One is reminded of the three monkeys Mizaru, Kikazaru and Iwazaru who see, hear and speak no evil. Unfortunately, comparing Congressional Democrats to monkeys is probably more insulting to the monkeys.

A decade ago, the Republican Congress was rabid to impeach President Clinton for lying about a sexual affair. One might ask oneself: as a result of Mr. Clinton’s actions, did anyone die? Did a volatile part of the world become dangerously unstable? Did the threat of terrorism around the world, including within the United States, increase? Were hundreds of billions of dollars spent, plunging the United States into record-breaking debt? Did hostility toward the U.S. increase in every corner of the world?

In case anyone is wondering, the answer to all those questions is ‘no.’ Yet an over-zealous prosecutor spent $40,000,000 investigating Mr. Clinton’s sex life.

Now one might fast forward to 2007. President Bush is not under Congressional investigation, despite the fact that he is a Republican and the Democrats control both houses of Congress. One might ask the very same questions about Mr. Bush’s actions.

Did anyone die? Yes, nearly 4,000 Americans and approximately 1,000,000 Iraqis.

Did a volatile part of the world become dangerously unstable? Yes, countries throughout the Middle East, though hardly paradises, at least provided their citizens with electricity and running water, and a modicum of security. Now with Iraq in the flames of civil war, Iran being threatened by the U.S. and not appearing willing to sit back and wait to be invaded, the entire area has been destabilized.

Did the threat of terrorism around the world, including within the United States, increase? Yes, statistics indicate that terrorist activity has skyrocketed since the U.S. invaded Iraq.
