Republicans drafting plans for POLICE STATE
US drafting plan to allow government access to any email or Web search

01/14/2008 @ 9:02 am
Filed by RAW STORY

National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell is drawing up plans for cyberspace spying that would make the current debate on warrantless wiretaps look like a "walk in the park," according to an interview published in the New Yorker's print edition today . . . the plan . . . would mean giving the government the authority to examine the content of any e-mail, file transfer or Web search.

I think every candidate for President - from BOTH political parties- needs to be asked whether he, or she, supports this TRULY EVIL, TRULY UN AMERICAN plan, and whether he, or she, will repudiate it, or implement it, if elected.

This nation was born saying "Live FREE or DIE". But, after 7 years of non-stop Republican FEAR MONGERING, we have been reduced to a nation of wimpering children willing to voluntarily hand over CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS that generations of Americans fought, and died, to preserve, if only the government will protect us from the scary terrorists!

Well guess what, people . . . there are WORSE things that dying in a terrorist attack . . . and living in a POLICE STATE under constant surveillance is one of them.

I, for one, REFUSE to be AFRAID!

Krash

2. Many here on DU called some of us tin-foilers for saying this would come
Wish they had been right and I had been wrong.

And they are too busy kicking around the diversion that is Hillary/Obama and who said what. Several people have posted about this in several forums. Sinks like a rock.

Really sad.

3. I can see . . .
I am quite surprised . . . and discouraged . . . by the lack of response!

I DON'T WANT a President Clinton, or a President Obama, or a President Edwards with these powers!

I shudder to think about a President Guiliani with them . . . CHRIST . . . Guiliani turned a blind eye when the NYPD raped suspects with broom handles when he was MAYOR . . . can you imagine what he would do with the power to wire-tap and waterboard as PRESIDENT!?

Scary. VERY, VERY SCARY

12. Personally, I think the ugly truth is just more than most, even here, can face.
Since nothing short of massive public demonstrations will stop the fascists from turning us into chattel property without rights, I am glad I am old and not looking to deal with all of what is coming down the pike.

I am so depressed about what the younger people are looking at (but, most, not seeing).

14. The ugly truth is worse than that, havocmom.

If we have massive public demonstrations, all the apparatus is in place for massive "legal" Bushie response, brutality and atrocity. We must never forget that everything the Nazis did was "legal", also.

After 25 years of Goebbels v2.0 or Bush-Limbaughism or whatever you want to call it, there are more than enough monsters ready, willing and able to staff the camps and feel the joy that comes with the black uniform, the modern equivalent of the death's head insignia, and unchecked power to brutalize The Other, who is Subhuman.

Those few, there are STILL so very few of us who can see it. Strangely, like you and me, most of us have seen it almost from the very start...as if people who couldn't see it then can NEVER overcome their denial to see it, no matter how solidly the shadows you and I were reviled for speaking even before 9/11/2001 line up in front of us.

I have said it before and I will say it again. We are now, through TV, Prozac, advertising, marketing, and so much more, the FULL equivalent of the 1930s Germans. Fully. The only thing that still shields that reality from coming into being is our relative wealth and the vestigial remnants of the Republic that must have been dying for quite some time before Bushler came along and delivered the coup d'grace behind the ear.

And all we can do is remember those brave souls of the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, who were even more certain to be doomed than we (and that is saying something), yet still stood and were true in the end.

Perhaps that was not in spite of the fact they had nothing left to lose, but because of it.

In either case, the Imperial Subjects of Amerika are READY to follow the Fuhrer to the gates of hell. 15% will do whatever they are told, and their capacity for brutality once they have "permission from authority" is limitless. 15% will strongly support the actions of the Loyal Bushie Stormtroopers, but not have the stomach to look their victims in the eye, preferring to live vicariously through others. 65-69.5% will do what they have always done, which is duck their heads and try to get through each day, but denial will become more difficult with each day. That doesn't matter, though, denial is perhaps the most powerful human force after sex drive, and all will remain in denial as long as nothing happens to them and anyone they know personally.

0.5%-3%, which numbers between 1,500,000 and 6,000,000, will resist in some way, but it will be scattershot and hey, what are all these laws quietly enacted and Halliburton Concentration Camps being built for except against the eventual day they can provide "a return on investment".

Like you, I wished I was wrong, but the evidence is piling so high now that there as a less than 5% chance that we were wrong about it.

I still wish I will be wrong.

17. I concur with your opinion,
but on the subject of our youngsters i am of the opinion that they are either too stupid or purposely dumbed down to know what it is they are losing. I see what is happening and it is discouraging for me to see it happening and I think it won't change without a revolution. Will they be smart enough to know they will even have to fight to get their country and rights back? I'm really depressed now.

6. Anyone want to take bets on our Democratic led Congress rolling over and spreading their
legs for the Republicans on this one?

Based on the last year, the sheets are no doubt already being turned down... :(

7. We, the people, need to see their e-mails. Turn them over along with
all the other docs which have been appropriately and formally requested by the Congress, George, the joke.
