Sarah Palin turns down $170 million for Alaska education
Excerpt:

Just when you thought Sarah Palin had wised up and decided to stay out of the spotlight, she announced that she would refuse stimulus money designated for Alaska by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Since Palin's state receives more federal money in the form of earmarks than any other state, it's obvious that her announcement was generated for political gain.

The Anchorage Daily news reports, "The biggest single chunk of money that Palin is turning down is about $170 million for education, including money that would go for programs to help economically disadvantaged and special needs students."

2. Same here.
Earlier on in the election, I was more or less even leveled. But these days, my respect for her is pretty much gone. She's just another phony.

3. because Palin as well as all her right wing ilk know what Education
does to folks. It makes them more aware of frauds like herself and the GOP. Nothing worse than having educated minds when all you do is try to lie, and steal your way to the top.

6. Will Palin return the other excess federal funds Alaska receives
compared to what they contribute.

As long as she doesn't want to squander money, return the rest as well

7. Actually she is opening to public debate & legislature whether to accept the rest of it.

Seems like a democratic move.

Palin rejects nearly 30 percent of federal stimulus funds, says lawmakers must decide on rest

By ANNE SUTTON , Associated Press
Last update: March 20, 2009 - 5:20 AM

JUNEAU, Alaska - It's up to the Alaska Legislature to request hundreds of millions of dollars in federal stimulus funds from the federal government.

Gov. Sarah Palin said Thursday that she would accept only 69 percent of the estimated $930 million dollars that could flow to the state, including $514 million for capital projects and $128 million for a hike in Medicaid reimbursement.

Palin said she would accept money that is "timely, targeted and temporary" and does not create strings that will bind the state in the future.

"I can't attest to every fund that's being offered the state in the stimulus package will be used to create jobs and stimulate the economy, so I'm requesting only those things that I know will," Palin said at a news conference at the Capitol. "Public discussion will have to ensue on all those other dollars that some will say 'you left on the table.'"
