This letter is in reference to an article published in the Business section of the paper, page B12, on March 26:
I find the fact that IBM plans to cut its workforce based in the United States by 4 percent. The jobs are being outsourced to India.
I find this extremely offensive. They claim they are doing this to cut costs. What happens to these people now? They will collect unemployment.
My thoughts are that these practices should no longer be allowed to continue. These firms like IBM should be fined. They are, in effect, thumbing their noses at their own people. We need to create jobs, not continue to export them.
Our country cannot survive if companies’ profits are considered more important than its people. It is, in my opinion, obscene.
We need to send a message to these firms that their business is people here in the United States of America, not India.
Let’s get a grassroots movement going and let our government know there needs to be an intervention on their part to stop this obscenity.
