Folks like this always are puzzling to me. He reads like a laundry list of progressive complaints about conservatives, but still considers himself a republican.
Republican to GOP: Please leadexcerpt:
My party decries the stimulus package. It complains that portions of the bill will require funding projects or services long after the money runs out. That is not fiscally responsible, they claim. Really?
My party routinely does the same thing to public education. We have a physical-education mandate with no funds to carry it out. High schools are required to offer majors to college-bound students. Where are those funds? The largest unfunded mandate is No Child Left Behind. Republicans sit quietly and do nothing to relieve districts from the burdens of those mandates. My party defends its actions by saying it is about raising standards. However, when my party does not like something, it calls it government interference. I call it hypocrisy.
I have heard repeatedly that my party is working hard to maintain a "world-class education" for our students. Really? Florida consistently ranks toward the bottom of per-pupil spending, yet the GOP loves to tout our so-called "high" ranking for achievement. My party is not concerned with being the best. It settles for not being last and calls it success.
