Support for gun control at its lowest in 50 years
Excerpt:

In a Gallup poll that was conducted last week before the gun massacre in Binghamton, NY, just 29% of respondents said they thought hand guns should be banned.

In the first year the poll was conducted, 1959, 60% of respondents were in favor of banning hand guns.

Opposition to banning hand guns has risen to 69%.

Women are more likely to want stricter laws regarding gun sales and are also more likely to favor a ban on hand guns than men are.

Not surprisingly, fewer people in the South are in favor of restrictions on gun sales. Republicans and Independents are much more likely to oppose any kind of restriction of gun sales or the banning of hand guns than are Democrats. There are fewer Democrats in the South than elsewhere in the nation.

Approximately 43% of American households own at least one gun and among gun owners, a surprising 32% believe there should be stricter laws concerning the sale of guns. Among people who don't own guns, 62% believe there should be more restrictions on the sales of guns.

3. I'm not so sure about that....
Apparently after similar shootings the number goes up slightly for a couple of months and then swings back and keeps going lower.

2. Maybe Binghampton is slightly biased right now. But it is a point.

4. Up to about three years ago I was in favor strict regulation and bans.
Now I own a gun but I am still in favor of strict and strong federal regulation.

The fact that states can do whatever the hell they want is ridiculous. At the same time, regulation that makes sense in NYC probably won't make sense in North Dakota. Someone a lot smarter than me needs to put a thinking cap on.

5. I don't understand why so many gun enthusiasts are so against
restricting the way guns are sold. Why not have to have a permit and or a background check? It might at least prevent some suicides and homicidal rampages. Some people who shouldn't be allowed to buy guns are people who have mental problems. Like the crazy woman in Florida who shot her son at a shooting range in Florida today. She had spent a year in a mental institution but she was still allowed to rent and fire a gun. I just think it ought to be harder than that to get access to guns.
