Yes, in fact, the teabagging events were the GOP's "Anti-Obama rebellion"

Michael Oneal and Janet Hooks at The Chicago Tribune actually got that the teabagging events were GOP-led anti-Obama events. It was hard to miss as the talking point of the day from so many of the Republicans was that Obama is a fascist. And, I think the vitriol spewing from the teabaggers caught many reporters by surprise. The Tribune reporters also point out that this GOP strategy is risky (but, it's the only strategy they've got):

Across the country, Republicans and their conservative allies sought to ignite a grass-roots rebellion against President Barack Obama on Wednesday, staging scores of Tax Day "tea parties" to demand tax cuts, lower federal spending and smaller government.

But the effort came with a risk: In the current economic crisis, with half a million or more jobs vanishing each month, many Americans seem less concerned about how much Washington deducts from their paychecks than whether they will have a paycheck at all.

"Nothing is as pressing a concern as the economy," said GOP pollster Whit Ayres, noting that even among Republicans the political salience of the tax issue is not what it once was.

At issue is whether the anti-tax, anti-government spending message makes Republicans seem out of touch with present-day reality.

There isn't really an issue: Republicans are out of touch with the present-day reality. That's why Republican leaders like Michael Steele and Eric Cantor deny we're even in an economic crisis. That's why every House Republican and almost every Republican Senator voted against the stimulus bill. They don't think the economy is tanking. You'd think the statistics on unemployment and foreclosures would cause concern. But, facts don't matter to zealots. And, as we saw yesterday, hating Obama, not fixing the economy, is the GOP's top priority.

1. Hate Radio and Big Media keep dragging the GOP "base" farther from reality
My hope is that they some something they can't finish, very soon. We will all be better off when they are no longer a part of the decision making process.

2. This most recent example ot the Republican strategy of "fight Obama, fight the Democrats"
shows just how important disinformation and an ignorant electorate are to the Corporate Lobbyist party. They are hoping to derail Democrats efforts to fix this Deregulation Disaster. They want to make matters even worse, creating enough mayhem and confusion that they will be able to subvert another election ala 2000 & 2004. They certainly surpass themselves in contemptible loathesome behavior.

I keep hoping the Corporate Lobbyist party will show some shred of concern for our country. But let's face it, that's about as likely as Karl Rove giving up his Sturm Soldaten (SS) uniform and paraphernalia.

3. Dems need to organize a pro-economic recovery movement
On the TV coverage of the "Tea Party" event in Cincinnati I noticed that some people were holding signs saying "SOCIALISM". Clearly President Obama's stimulus plan is a far cry from socialism, he whole-heartedly supports the free market, personal initiative and a government for and by the people yet this lie continues to be spread by those who are resentful and vindictive because their candidate lost the election. I agree that the sole purpose of the Tea Party rallies is to undermine and sabotage the Obama Administration, all encouraged by the "I hope he fails" Limbaugh philosophy, I find it appalling and destructive. It just fuels the fire of irrational political division and acrimony and destroys the esprit de corps in our nation and neighborhoods.
The “Tea Partiers” are trying to send a message that ALL middle-class Americans oppose President Obama’s stimulus plan which is absolutely false. As an average American citizen and a fervent supporter of President Obama and the stimulus plan I am very frustrated that my view is not being made more public, I think those who support the President also need to have our voices heard loud and clear as well. I’m certain that there are many other average citizens like myself who favor the stimulus plan and support President Obama whole-heartedly and are very frustrated that our voices are not being heard over the loud, obnoxious voices on Fox news who are feverishly pushing the “Tea Party” agenda. Democrats need to organize a productive "Together We Can" movement to counteract the Tea Party-perhaps a nationwide canned food drive in which people would be asked to purchase canned goods and donate them to their local food pantry or homeless shelter as a way to both stimulate the economy and make a positive difference. Due to economic crisis these organizations have increased needs and decreased donations. It would be a perfect antidote to the "just say no" obstructionists since it would be productive and positive.
Contrary to RNC chair Michael Steele, I am grateful for the benefits I receive from paying my taxes, paved roads and bridges, safe streets, fire and emergency services, beautiful parks and museums, resourceful libraries, conservatories and schools, a strong military and VA etc. I find it despicable that a public servant like Mr.Steele would demonize the government and encourage citizens NOT to pay their taxes or at least resist doing so but, then again Mr Steele is so much like the Mad Hatter, filled with total nonsense.
My son is an Occupational Therapist who has worked with a social service program funded by the government that served the needs of the poor, mentally ill and homeless. I know firsthand that my tax money was used for a good cause. He is currently working for the VA, another excellent use of tax dollars. My sister is a teacher for Head Start and makes a significant difference in the lives of the children she teaches everyday. I am sick and tired of Republicans demonizing our government. It’s like self-flagellation. The fact is “We the people” are the government; there are many good decent people both Democrats and Republicans who work for the government and make a positive difference in this country every single day.
My tea bagger neighbor blares her radio during the summer while listening to her best friend Rush Limbaugh. She typifies the anti-social, self-absorbed, inconsiderate and bigoted temperament of those who attended the tea parties.

`At any rate I'll never go THERE again!' said Alice as she picked her way through the wood. `It's the stupidest tea-party I ever was at in all my life!'

The former Senator from Illinois! Imagine the locals writing letters to the editor there if they did not speak the truth!
