National Union chairman Ya'acov "Ketzele" Katz sent a letter to White House chief-of-staff Rahm Emanuel last week admonishing him not to forget his Jewish and Israeli origins.

SLIDESHOW: Israel & Region | World Katz's missive came in response to a reported verbal exchange between Emanuel and an unidentified American Jewish leader.

Katz claims that in a private meeting with the unnamed leader, Emanuel said, "In the next four years, there will be a peace agreement with the Palestinians on the basis of two states for two peoples, and it does not matter to us who is the prime minister."

In the letter, a Hebrew version of which was provided to The Jerusalem Post by Katz's parliamentary aide, Katz wrote: "For many Israelis, this report is a cause for worry because it reveals a condescending attitude toward our prime minister and Israeli public opinion. This is an attitude that Israel does not expect from a real friend such as the US, and all the more so from an Israeli Jew who has succeeded in being appointed White House chief-of-staff."

Katz went on to compare Emanuel to the biblical Esther, who ended up at using her influence with Persian King Ahashverosh to intervene on behalf of the Jews of the Persian Empire.

1. What a bullshit statement that is.
That Emanuel is Jewish should not have any impact whatsoever on American policy towards Israel or Palestine. It is utterly irresponsible for Katz to even suggest that Rahm remember that he's Jewish in this context. I'm proud that Rahm acts as an American first when it comes to policy.

2. Rahm is American, not Israeli
just because he's Jewish shouldn't mean he has to bow down to whatever the current Israeli government wants.

3. Well, he did volunteer for the Israeli Defence Force...
...during the first Gulf War. And I believe he has dual US/Israeli citizenship.

This doesn't take away from the fact that Katz's letter was pathetic and pointless, and worthy of being totally ignored. But, Rahm's volunteering with IDF certainly shows a heightened level of allegiance to Israel when compared to most American Jews, which is probably why people like Katz think they can make such statements.

5. Since when does being Jewish preculde being intelligent or humanitarian?
The two state solution is the only decent and reasonable answer.

And no, less than 35% of Israeli Jews support the fascist Zionist's policies toward the Palestinian Arabs.

8. So for Katz being a Jew means being an ultranationalist and colonialist.
OK, I think I got it.
