Ever wonder why people like David Broder can look the other way re. torture?
The answer is related to class related sociopathy. It seems easy for those of the ruling class to justify/rationalize the treatment of the lower classes. sonny-boy bush didn't show the least bit of compassion when over 100 people were put to death in Texas under his watch. What did it matter if they were guilty or not, whether they got a fair trial or not, they were of the lower classes. bush and his peers have no compassion for the hundreds of thousands in Iraq that have died, been injured or displaced. To them these people are underlings and not worthy of compassion. I am sure that David Broder feels the same way. Why worry about torture. It was only lower class people (read sub-humans) that were tortured.

1. it brings Katrina to mind
they KNEW thousands were too poor to leave, that they were stranded, drowning, starving, thirsty, but mostly just low class to them.

4. Katrina is a great example of how well privatizing something would "work so much better and cheaper
than the Government" would ...

since the levees had been put in place by the Army Corps of Engineers ... but funding for maintaining the levees was cut and diverted to Iraq ... so, "private industry" stepped up and shored up the levees, right? Oil companies which had all their refineries in the area spent millions out of their billions of dollars in profits to make sure that the levees could withstand almost every disaster short of the Earth splitting in half, right?

6. Yes, it was painfully obviously when Barbara bush said to the people of Katrina that
were displaced with out homes, that it was like camping out. Not an ounce of compassion. Surprised she didn't suggest they eat cake.

2. I just left a gathering of liberals, all but one an Atheist...
the person who is Christian is the sweetest woman, and she's a liberal who can't understand why any Christian would vote Republican. However, she still was debating whether torture was okay if it was to get information and as long as it didn't involve 'innocent' people. I love her, but I do not understand how she can even justify torture to that extent, but it does explain to me who the 48% of Americans polled thinking torture is okay under certain circumstances are.

3. I believe you are correct
I have pondered this and come to the same conclusion - they, like Nazis, can see fellow human beings as a lesser species

5. We are desperately in need of a mass revolt by the proletariat
with people like Broder, Krauthammer, Limpballs, Bush, and the rest of the chattering elite made to feel real suffering for a few months. This would serve as a warning to the ruling class that the country is ours, not theirs, and the whole paradigm would shift back to the founders' vision.

7. I assume you don't mean an armed revolt. Those almost never work. So what kind of
revolt do you think would work?

8. A general strike would get some attention
They think that this recession has us in a total fear for our jobs, but if no one but Big Media showed up to work for a month, we could regain the upper hand

10. So we as a people really ARE under the thumb of the government
you've resigned yourself and the american people to a miserable barely-human existence. How sad :-(

11. Yes it is very sad. And we are under the thumb of our government. I am pointing this out
not resigning myself to it. I will fight with all I have. But most of the country don't agree with me. Most are still content with their lives. It's fun to fantasize about an armed revolt. Where the common man fights off the tyrants and establishes a free government. But practically, it can't happen. If you think there is a way, I am all ears.

12. and you don't have to look across the room at a cocktail party. . .
. . and think "I'm having drinks with a bunch of war criminals" when reality is safely imprisoned behind a wall of denial.
