Olympia Snowe: Specter Switch "Truly a Dangerous Signal"
From today's NY Times, an op-ed by Sen. Olympia Snowe:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/29/opinion/29snowe.html?em

A great snippet:

"It is true that being a Republican moderate sometimes feels like being a cast member of “Survivor” — you are presented with multiple challenges, and you often get the distinct feeling that you’re no longer welcome in the tribe. But it is truly a dangerous signal that a Republican senator of nearly three decades no longer felt able to remain in the party."

Perhaps Ms. Snowe, and her constituents, want to make a switch to the party less far to the right?

1. Even Joe Scar is questioning whether the party is dying or already dead.

2. It's a stinking, rotting corpse already
They can thank Bush, Cheney, Rove et al for their demise.

12. oh, I think it was going bad long before
like, with Reagan, and the partnering with the christofascists and corporate inbreeding...

Since I'm actually not hugely politically knowledgeable, I'm sure there's plenty more to the picture than my little comment here,

but anyway, just had to add this

:hi:

4. D E A D
And good riddance. Let the fringe whack jobs form their own party so they can wallow in their irrelevance for the next 100 years, like "Libertarians."

13. Why "like" Libertarians?
Why not just let the remaining Goopers join the Libertarian Party and stop pretending they're the same party that Lincoln and Eisenhower belonged to?

17. More like UNDEAD. Like vampires they will rise again. The worst economic times drive
good people to join bad groups. I fear we will see a resurgence if the economy does not turn around significantly and quickly for the majority of working people in America.

of stupid, elderly white males who seem stuck in some sort of time warp.

and civil rights from back in the 60's.

8. Spectre couldn't win a GOP primary now. Our Ladies could win any primary up here.
Especially Snowe. It's fairly pointless to run against her in any way, shape or form, up here, so she has the liberty of becoming the last Republican Moderate.

'taint true for Specter.

9. It shows her hypocrisy
She admits that the GOP is a gang of corrupt extremists, and yet she continues to prop it up.

My state senator, Carol Weston, is one of the craziest right wing lunatics you'll ever see, but every two years, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins rush to the district to keep her in power.

They are nothing but shameless opportunists.

16. Would They Win If They Became Democrats?
The Democrats are pretty far to the right these day. Would Maine voters punish a party switch?

11. I don't see any more possible defectors at this moment
Oly is an old-time Repuke, and Suzy is one of Bush's faves. Our job (or at least the party's) is to pick up NH, NC, OH, and maybe KY next year.
