3rd Circuit to Mull Privacy of Cell Phone Data

"In a case that could prove to be one of the most important privacy rights battles of the modern era, the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will hear argument this week on the proper legal standard to apply when prosecutors demand cell phone location data.

The data, which are recorded about once every seven seconds whenever a cell phone is turned on, effectively track the whereabouts and the comings and goings of every cell phone user."

1. This is disturbing. The government is looking for permission...
to conduct fishing expeditions.

Why shouldn't they be required to meet the same standards they do for wiretapping?

3. I was wondering if the Justic Department
has to pick up the cases that the last administration leaves and argue the same position, or do they review everything first? Then, how do they change their position? Any legal minds out there know the answer?

4. Sorry... this is President Obama's baby.
I don't think blaming Bushco for this is helpful. Call it like it is. President Obama does not believe we have a right to privacy in our communications or our location, at every given moment. I would love to hang this around the neck of the NeoCONS and the Repukes, but I can't.

President Obama has been replaced by an Alien replicant. And our congress will pass this.... you know, the one that is controlled by our party... that one????

5. It's probably more the natural tendency of police and prosecutors to...
keep trying for more ways to get a conviction. As technology moves on, they move with it.

It just comes with the job-- who of us wouldn't try to make our job easier? The trick is to keep watching and fighting them to maintain some sort of balance.

6. The Justice Department, part of the Executive Branch...
...., is pushing this. President Obama is where the buck stops.

This is a major step up in monitoring us.

Remeber how EVIL warrentless wiretaps were when the Bush administration was in office?

I guess it is OK now that we are in power?

Wake up people.

7. Sad state
Our gov't is treating the citizens of this country like children. Every "problem" I have they try and fix. Every solution of the gov't makes my life worse.
