Times Square Bombing Suspect a Complete Disgrace
By Amitabh Pal, May 6, 2010

Amitabh Pal is the Managing Editor of The Progressive magazine.

snip//

“It’s sad to see young Muslims across the planet being brainwashed by murderous thugs masquerading as holy men,” Pakistani-American rock star Salman Ahmad tells me (watch for his profile in an upcoming issue of The Progressive). “The people who attempt to kill in the name of religion are the enemies of Islam and humanity; they are terrorists, not heroes.”

Shahzad is a disgrace to Pakistan, which will be known even more just as an exporter of terrorism, not for the achievements of its people in spheres ranging from music (the late, great Sufi Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan) to sports (notably cricket, squash and field hockey).

Shahzad is a disgrace to Pakistani-Americans (including a number of my friends), who’ll be cast under a pall of suspicion. His actions also dishonor the work of Salman Ahmad, who has made it his life’s mission to spread a message of peace and reconciliation, and the sacrifice of Mohammad Salman Hamdani, who was killed on September 11, 2001, while trying to rescue people inside the World Trade Center.

Shahzad is a disgrace to all immigrants (including myself), who come to the United States to explore a new life, not to engage in death and destruction. He will feed into anti-immigrant sentiments, manifested recently in the Arizona law.

In short, he is a complete disgrace. Surely, that could not have been his intention when he drove a rigged SUV to Times Square on a Saturday evening.

1. Yes, leaving your house key on the key-ring in the SUV where you planted the fireworks ...
doesn't show a great penchant for "attention to detail."

He's the Wile E. Coyote of terrorists ... just plain sad. :(

3. These comments are important
Unfortunately, they will never get the attention they deserve.

Thanks, babylonsister, for bringing this to our attention.

4. Also, thumbs up to Salman Ahmad
My husband and I have been fans of his music for years, and he's definitely someone who's actively working to resolve the current antagonisms between the West and the Muslim world. I'm looking forward to that profile of him.

6. The Taliban were not responsible
for the 9/11 'hijackers'. But whoever was, obviously were a lot more professional. The Taliban had no interest in attacking the U.S. until the U.S. attacked and started killing, imprisoning and torturing their people. This is what wars of agression do.

I do not understand Americans whining about the fall-out from a decision they made and surely they were not so stupid as to think that you can invade and kill people without any consequences. I'm surprised at how little there have been, to be honest.

Look at what we did after 9/11. We are still killing people ten years later. And most who support those wars believe we are perfectly justified. So, we can't make different rules for everyone else, or we can I suppose, but it's pretty hypocritical.

7. This Guy Was Bugged Because He Got Foreclosed
He has more in common with Tea Partiers than with the Taliban.

9. I wonder if he might have been a PsyOps set-up stooge?
The information just doesn't add up.

Leaving your house key on the key-ring in the bomb laden vehicle seems BEYOND Stupid.
