NPR Morning Edition 6/9/04 - Ashcroft Won't Release Memos
Great reporting here.

Two memos prepared by Bush administration lawyers and high-ranking officials suggest the president cannot be held to federal and international rules prohibiting torture. Testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday, U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft refused to turn over the documents or say whether President Bush has authorized force or other techniques in interrogation. NPR's Nina Totenberg reports.

2. "That's what contempt of Congress is all about"
Quote of the year by Senator Richard Durbin, after Ashcroft refused to produce the memos:

"Mr Attorney General, with all due respect, your personal belief is not a law. And you are not citing a law. And you are not claiming executive privilege. And frankly that is what contempt of Congress is all about. You have to give us a specific legal authority which gives you the right to say 'no'. Or the President has to claim privilege. And you've done neither."

YES!!
