Australia's choice is not Bush's business
The criticism, from no less than US President George W Bush, Secretary of State Colin Powell and his deputy, Richard Armitage, has been neither subtle nor veiled.

The US's much-vaunted commitment to freedom and human rights has been fragile in Iraq, and seemingly non-existent in Guantanamo Bay.

Now democracy, including Australians' rights to have a political debate without interference, looks like another fine concept to uphold, till it doesn't suit the US to do so.

Mr Howard should fight his domestic battles on his own record and with his own resources.
