BRIAN DICKERSON: Outrageous, yes - but it's hardly news (OMFG!)
http://www.freep.com/news/metro/dicker18_20040618.htm

There was an interesting little news item in Wednesday's paper, tucked among the stories about the Pistons' championship, the impending sale of Motor City Casino, and the assassination of yet another luckless Iraqi bureaucrat.

The item said the bipartisan commission investigating the 9/11 attacks on America had concluded -- and I'm paraphrasing here -- that there's every reason to believe the president of the United States was lying through his teeth when he suggested the existence of a collaborative relationship between Al Qaeda and the government of deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

<snip>

One is reminded of Samuel Butler's observation that "the best liar is he who makes the smallest amount of lying go the longest way."

It sickens me to write these words, because I am one of those who gave Bush the benefit of the doubt -- one of the many Americans who, however much we may have disagreed with him on a dozen other issues, simply could not bring ourselves to believe that any president would mislead his constituents about so important a matter, or be so cynical about exploiting the emotional dynamite of 9/11.

All of this op-ed is definitely worth reading and sharing with others. It is priceless!

1. I Agree with you.
I gave Monkey Man the benefit of the doubt and now I'm doing everything I can for people to vote for Kerry.

3. "Too little sex, too much smoke" (Priceless LOL)
Great article. I love his remark that "Nobody expects the president of the United States to tell the truth about something as personal as his reasons for going to war." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

6. "emotional dynamite of 911"
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 02:23 PM by Martin Eden
"simply could not bring ourselves to believe that any president would mislead his constituents about so important a matter, or be so cynical about exploiting the emotional dynamite of 9/11"

Many still are in denial about Bush exploiting the emotional dynamite of 9/11. It is an absolute betrayal of the trust that so many Americans placed in him in the wake of this national trauma.

I never really trusted him, but for a brief time I found myself wondering if Al Gore could have done better in providing America with a reassuring boost in the aftermath of 9/11.

That thought was dispelled fairly quickly, soon to be replaced with rage when it became obvious the Bush/Cheney/Rove White House was exploiting a national tragedy for partisan gain, and even worse -- misleading the nation into an ideologically-driven unnecessary war that would exacerbate the problem of terrorism.

When I find myself confronted with a Bush-backer who can't understand why I find him so abhorrent, I try to explain exactly how Bush has betrayed those trust him, how he has exploited a national tragedy and is making our country less safe.

It doesn't always work, but I try.
