For Red Cross, Aid Conditions Hit New Low in Afghanistan

The number of internally displaced people — those who have fled conflict or natural disaster — has also risen 25 percent compared with last year, Mr. Stocker said. He noted that the Red Cross might be undercounting because it could no longer travel to many parts of the country.

1. All these people saying "Stop this war"...
We're not going to "see peace" (re: your username) until the pipeline gets built. It's about that and nothing but that.

I guess the puppet, Karzai, signed an agreement recently to get started on that project.

Maybe the Taliban will blow up each section as it's built. Not that I would countenance such a thing. Uh-uh.

2. "The pipeline."
Of course, several have been proposed. More than one deal has been inked for each of them.

The one most people talk about is an oil pipeline down the west side of Afghanistan to the ocean, which would nicely help petroleum companies.

The one the deal was most recently inked for is a natural gas pipeline, and while it starts in the west of Afghanistan it quickly cuts east through Kandahar, and mostly helps Pakistan and, potentially, India. It doesn't do much for western oil companies.
