Health insurance costs soar
In preparation for the opening of their State of Working America website, the folks at the Economic Policy Institute have been posting some "snapshots" of how the economy affects workers and their families, including the difference between the upward mobility of whites and blacks, the impoverishment of children and the dwindling buying power of the minimum wage.

The latest snapshot in their scrapbook shows the rocketing rise in health insurance costs.

1. I am shocked anyone would be shocked by this.
The fact is that the HCR con job of a bill will do NOTHING to curtail the raping of Americans in regard to healthcare costs.

6. I am not sure it was designed to.
About half way through the HCR debate, I realized that if reducing premium costs is your objective, the bill was barking up the wrong tree.

The reason that Health Insurance Companies charge so much is because there is not enough competition. The federal monopoly laws were delegated to the states. Complain to your state government.

4. Rising costs forced partner and I to let our health insurance policies lapse.
This is the first time either of us have ever been without health insurance in our lives. Reform didn't really do much for us personally, but if it did help some then it was worth it I guess.
