Why is Space Commando Gen.Meyers top Mil. Com. during ground war
All he ever seems to do is go through a scripted comedy routine with old Rummy during press conferences that remind me of old Abbott and Costello routines. Our Nation is currently engaged in what can only be described as primarily ground actions and Boy George picks him as top military commander during this period of ground warfare. These guys truly don`t have a clue as to what to do about anything. ...Oscar

i just thought the pentagon had some kind of procedure that each branch gets a JCoS in a progression. Is that not how it's done?

experienced and trained in ground warfare in charge during a period of growingly intense ground warfare. The two could not be further apart: ground warfare and space command. After 4 years and 2 tours in VEIT NAM I was a lance corporal. Thats an E-3. I went up and down alot as to rank for what its worth. And I was a rifleman and have feelings about it, valid ones. ...Oscar

U.S. statutory agency, created in 1949 within the Dept. of Defense. The chairman is the principal military adviser to the President, the National Security Council, and the Secretary of Defense. Members include the chairman, appointed by the President with Senate approval; the chief of staff, U.S. army; the chief of naval operations; the chief of staff, U.S. air force; the commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, and a vice chairman who manages the Joint Staff. The Joint Chiefs prepare military plans and direct unified and other combat commands under the Secretary of Defense. http://www.bartleby.com/65/jo/JointChi.html

does seem a bit odd, perhaps Myers is the only General they could find who would tell them what they wanted to hear?

like 10 times or 100 times faster . You do not have to be accurate, I just need to know roughly how much faster you are speaking about. ...Oscar

in the Carlyle group make a lot of money off of these wars. This is a tradition if you will ,begun back in 1924 or so with the Bush and Walker families involvement in the HITLER PROJECT for this story go to: < http://www.tarpley.net/bush2.htm >. They have been major arms dealers since then and earlier. It is one of their more lucrative enterprises and continues to this day with their involvement with the Carlyle Group. And on and on it goes. ...Oscar

17. The reason is the ballistic missile defense shield
The reason Myers got the job is because of the ballistic missile defense shield. If you remember, in the the time before 911, ballistic missile defense was the pentagons top priority. Richard Myers was the leader of the space command, and seen as the best man for the top job because of his experience with the early tests on ballistic missile defense. Hugh Shelton was in the process of retiring when 911 happened, and Myers had already been appointed, hence Myers stayed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, after 911, even if the priorities had changed.

19. I think that our military commanders all failed us at Tora Bora,
I too am former USMC, I also think that all the joint chiefs are politicians and ass kissers, they know that the pResident is moron. Former Marines like Generals Zinni and Hoare are exposing these idiots.

21. Myers Originally Tapped to sell Missile Defense!
Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 12:05 PM by Torgo4
You know, the pie in the sky that is fairly useless against suicide attacks and Al Qaeda-type assaults!

My veteran buddies and myself all maintain that JCS chairman should be Army or Marine.
Army: Combat Arms--Infantry, Armor, Aviation, Field Artillery (Air Defence Artillery in a pinch),Special Forces.
Marines are more battlefield oriented accross specialties!

At about 1800 hrs on 9/11, I'd have given Myers a "Just Kiddding" and kept Hugh Shelton as Chairman since he was Infantry/Spec Forces and USSOCOM Comander and had been dealing with Al Qaeda for years.

Instead we get flyboy who doesn't read his subordinate's reports (just like Rummy and Rice), and knows less about counterinsurgencies/terrorism/unconventional warfare than GeeDubya himself!
