Wash Post poll interpretation laughable

uses the results of one poll and concludes that Bush is getting a bounce. It must be that they have never heard of the margin of error, or of www.pollkatz.com, or they would have checked their facts.

Indeed the Newsweek poll (Washington Post and Newsweek are owned by the same outfit) does show a bounce, but none of the other polls do, they all show a trend for a steep drop where Bush is at his lowest numbers ever. As he begins to have only his deepest base left as support, the only sign that Bush's plummeting ratings will start to level off is the WP poll. None of the other polls indicates that even Bush's base will end the hemmoraging.

5. Crap Polls

Nearly all polls are pretty sketchy. Most that I'm aware of don't have a very sturdy methodology backing them up.

Plus, most polls that are reported these days are conducted by one partisan group or another. It is criminally easy to design a poll to find what you want.

7. Pointless to argue polls!

We at DU jump up and down (with thatlittle green bouncy thing-y) when we find a poll we like; Our hearts take flight! Then a poll comes out we don't like...and we stomp on it like fireplace cinders sparking onto the Persian carpet. The other side goes thru exactly the same drill. We're up! We're down! We're sideways!

Better to look skeptically at all polls -- good and bad. Since the situation in most cases changes from day to day, you can save yourself endless aggrievation.
