Is The End Nigh? We'll Know Soon Enough (May 21 is The End - geez, a Saturday).
Geez, you would think God would at least have the good graces to give us a full weekend before the Rapture:

Brian Haubert grabs some pamphlets and marches toward the flea market in Palmyra, N.J. Armed with a poster that trumpets Judgment Day on May 21, 2011, he braces for rejection. Announcing God's wrath is not always a popular message.

"I've been called a heretic," says Haubert, a 33-year-old actuary. "I've been told I read the wrong Bible. And then there's the occasional person who seems to be genuinely interested," he says.

His friend and fellow believer, Kevin Brown, uses a gentler approach, not confronting people or engaging in conversation, just politely handing out Judgment Day pamphlets.

Brown, who owns his own nutrition and wellness business, is soft-spoken and polished, not someone you'd imagine giving away doomsday tracts. But he says the clock is ticking.

"People need to know," Brown says, "and God commands us to share the Gospel about the end of the world. He says if we do not share the Gospel then their blood will be on our hands, whether they believe or not. God's been moving me to do this. . ."

1. And then when the sun rises on 5/22
and they see that the world goes on, how will this affect them?

I feel sorry for these people who are so easily led by those who would implant this kind of garbage into people. Their whole belief system is going to take a hit on the 22nd, which will be tough to deal with.

Annette

4. We've seen this time and again throughout history.
Some people are just without any core of their own, so they turn to these apocalyptic charlatans to do their thinking for them.

10. With all the usual stupidity...
such as it doesn't take into account all the adjustments in the calender since it was adopted, or the miscellaneous errors and uncertainties in the number of days since the birth of JHC. One way or another, these guys wind up being a joke, which they never quite get themselves.

3. This teaching came from Harold Camping
Of the Family Radio Network. He did not say that the world will end on that date. What he said that all the believers will be raptured on that date. Five month's later, on September 21, is the date that Jesus is supposed to return and judge everyone else. So, if many people are missing after May 21, you know what has happened. That's the way I remember it. Wikipedia has an article about Camping.

6. The flaw in the is evident. If all the "good" people are raptured out
on May 21 then why does Jesus need to return on Sept 21? There is no need for judgment after the so called "good" people are gone. Just send fire and brimstone.

Philosophy and teachings

>snip<
Camping teaches that a Biblical calendar has been hidden according to Daniel 12:9, Revelation 22:10 detailing the imminent end of the world (with alleged Biblical evidence pointing to the date for the Rapture as May 21, 2011);<8> of the "end of the church age" (which asserts that churches are no longer the vehicle used by God for salvation, 1 Peter 4:17);<9> and of predestination (Ephesians 1:4-5), according to which God determined before the beginning of the world which individuals are to be saved. In Camping's latest publications, he states that May 21, 2011 will be "the first day of the Day of Judgment"<10> and October 21, 2011 will be the end of the world.<11> Critics call Camping a "date-setter" following his own method of Biblical interpretation. Camping maintains that he follows the Bible's method of Biblical interpretation.<12>

Camping does not consider Family Radio a church and does not claim ordained or hierarchical authority within a church or institution. Camping claims that the church institutions do not employ the Bible alone as the sole authority. According to Camping, each church or denomination has its own unique set of doctrines and hermeneutics, which dictate how they understand the Bible. Family Radio's sole focus on the Bible is what he believes distinguishes it from churches. Recently, as his predicted Judgment Day (May 21, 2011) draws near, Family Radio has become affiliated with eBibleFellowship.com, another Bible-based ministry. Followers continue to listen to Camping despite the fact that he was wrong in his previous prediction of the end of the world. In his book 1994?, he claimed there was a very high likelihood that the world would end in September, 1994, although he did acknowledge in the book "the possibility does exist that I could be wrong."<13> He makes no mention of this failure when establishing his new claims of the end of the world in October, 2011. Camping has received criticism from a number of leaders, scholars, and laymen within the Christian community for his predictions on when the Rapture will take place. His critics argue that Jesus Christ taught that no man knows the day or the hour of the Lord's return.<14><15>

11. Matthew 24:36
But of that day and hour knoweth no , no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

Even their own book says it's impossible to know the day. If I know this, and I'm a committed atheist, shouldn't these guys?
