Ezra Klein: A shout-out to the best, but not most popular, ideas in Congress
Today I want to introduce the No-Brainer Awards: a roll call honoring some of the best legislative ideas you won’t see leading the evening news. These thoughtful bills and responsible reforms aren’t polarizing or sweeping, which you’d think would make it easier for them to pass. But for many of them, the absence of partisan passion means they never make it to the front of the congressional agenda. So let’s give them a push.
- The taxpayer receipt
- The Weekend Voting Act
- End the penny
- The Pay for War Act
- Stop hogging the beachfront

1. "Stop hogging the beachfront" refers to the citizen-owned airways....
...and other bandwidth. It has huge revenue potential, but we're basically letting the TV networks and cell-phone services use it on the cheap.

Good ideas, one and all. I feel especially strong about weekend voting, what with all the anti-voting legislation coming down the pike.
