Morphing Mores in Bombay? (Indians hating Call Center Jobs)
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-centers2aug02,1,165822,print.story?coll=la-home-headlines

In a sleek new office tower, two dozen young Indians are studying the customs of a place none of them has ever seen. One by one, the students present their conclusions about this fabled land.

"Americans eat a lot of junk food. Table manners are very casual," says Ritu Khanna.

"People are quite self-centered. The average American has 13 credit cards," says Nerissa Dcosta.

"Seventy-six percent of the people mistrust the government. In the near future, this figure is expected to go up to 100%," says Sunny Trama.

The Indians, who range in age from 20 to 27, have been hired to take calls from cranky or distraught Americans whose computers have gone haywire. To do this, they need to communicate in a language that is familiar but a culture that is foreign.

Read the article to see how high stress the jobs are and how many Indians hate them.

2. low pay even by indian standards
i have read. overwork too.

My dealings with Indian Centers... they misread and as a result "we dont answer homework questions from students" No help ever came to me with the problem.
I am NOT a student, may i add. Their english is horridly poor. Overwork hours prob a big factor.

PS Sixteen guys in the third world waiting to grab your outsourced job. Do the math, you'll see. EVERY job can be outsourced with robotic hands here, controlled fm there. Surgery has been done from Australia. Burger flipping is next?

3. Ever read Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson?
It's set in a future where about the only jobs left in America are in Pizza Delivery.

IMHO outsourcing jobs is a great way of redistributing global income. However, this isn't exactly fair as nobody actually voted for a Global Corporate Socialist Government.

4. Scientific as hell
If the only people from, uhhh, Nauru I'd ever talked to were people who couldn't get their computers to work, I'd probably want to drop a vial of Ebola on the place, too.

I couldn't make the decision to register with the L.A. Times, so I didn't read the article and I might be missing something here. But what's this about 13 credit cards? Or do they mean 13 computers, and 12 of them don't work? Is "Sunny Trama" Sunny Trama's real name?
