Pantagraph to Moore: Headline use 'misleading'

Explanation, apology sought

BLOOMINGTON -- The Pantagraph has a message for Michael Moore, creator of the movie hit, "Fahrenheit 9/11":
If he wants to "edit" The Pantagraph, he should apply for a copy-editing job and not simply show made-over and "falsely represented" pages from the newspaper in his movie -- or he should at least ask for permission first.

1. silly publicity stunt. the change made no difference in the meaning
i don't know why the date on the paper, in moore's movie, was wrong. but it didn't change anything whatsoever. there's no reason to believe it was changed on purpose, if changing served no purpose. it was a fuck up, and i hope mike deals with it fairly. defuse the situation, and don't let this little pissant paper get any more publicity, or its ideological backers any more mileage out of this.

2. Front Page vs. Letters to the Editor Page
They are very different sections of any newspaper. If Moore took a headline from the "letters to the editor" and repositioned it a the headline on a front page -- with a different date -- that would be a fariyl serious mis-representation and any newspaper would defend itself.

If it's not true, Moore will keep rolling along, all the stronger for swatting a spurious accusation. If it is true, then even leftists supporters of his work must realize this a problem. The fact they are only suing for $1.00 is far more alarming than if they were suing for one million, because it implies the newspaper is merely defending its news coverage.

If the editor of this thing ends up on the O'Reilly or the Today Show, I hope Michael has a better answer than "It's the thought that counts."
