Harris, state GOP put foot in mouth

As if Katherine Harris' poor judgment wasn't embarrassment enough for the Florida Republican Party this week, the state GOP made itself look doubly silly by refusing to make public the names of delegates who will attend the party convention in New York later this month.

America is in the midst of a war on terrorism; the nation this week is on high alert. Does Ms. Harris sincerely fail to understand that public statements about terrorist plots are sensitive in nature - especially if they may not be true?

While the most sensitive national security information does need to be protected, the names of delegates to a national convention do not. The GOP's overreaction - ostensibly for the sake of privacy and safety - suggests that secrecy is its natural response to any threat.
