Few new jobs/Symptom of failed policy
From Minneaoplis Star Tribune
Editorial: Few new jobs/Symptom of failed policy
August 8, 2004 ED0808
http://www.startribune.com/stories/1519/4915437.html

As a general rule of political economy, the prudent citizen draws a bright line between developments in the marketplace and events in Washington, D.C. The vast American economy can respond to forces quite beyond the control of politicians, and the behavior of politicians can respond to -- well, who knows?

But the dismal employment report released Friday by the Labor Department makes it impossible to sustain that distinction -- not with an election just three months away. The disappointing numbers should be deeply chastening for the campaign of President Bush and deeply troubling for voters who have suffered the most incompetent economic stewardship in memory.

To review: The Labor Department said the economy created only 32,000 jobs in July -- as against 200,000 jobs that economists predicted -- and downgraded its previous estimates for May and June. The nation's unemployment rate inched down to 5.5 percent, but only because thousands of "discouraged workers" quit looking for work.

2. BS-He's responsible for the downturn
<It would be unfair to blame the president for all those troubling numbers. Bush inherited a recession on the day he entered office. The aftermath of 9/11 delivered one blow after another to a shaky economy, and now rising oil prices are putting a squeeze on consumer budgets.>

He's responsible for 911.

He's responsible for profligately wasteful war and defense spending.

He's responsible for emptying the pockets of consumers and the treasury into stingy corporate pockets with "deregulation," unjustifiable rebates, hugh deficits, subsidies and tax cuts. He and his cronies, the "haves and the have mores" are picking the bones of the middle class clean and reducing the lower classes to destitution.

He's responsible for skyrocketing insurance, medical, education costs and increased state and local taxes with declining services.

He's personally responsible for escalating energy costs and is actively inflating those costs with a war which is interupting supply, causing instability in world markets, and increasing the pressure upward by purchasing of oil for the boondoggle petroleum reserve.

This article is a piss poor apologia for the politics of greed and conquest.

4. Bush inherited a recession the day he entered office????
THAT IS A F***ING LIE. It started in March 2001 and the downturn began when he and his bastard sidekick Cheney were campaigning.
