Iraq invasion a gift to Osama
he US invasion of Iraq was a "tremendous gift" to Osama bin Laden and a major setback in the struggle against al-Qaeda, according to a CIA terrorism expert, who has written a scathing account of the conduct of the US "war on terror."

The author of "Imperial Hubris: Why the West Is Losing the War on Terror" blasted the efforts of successive US governments and the US intelligence community in fighting what he describes as a global Islamic insurgency....

It's a disaster," he said. "I'm not an expert at all on Saddam or WMD (weapons of mass destruction) or Iraq but as it factors into the war against al-Qaeda or al-Qaedaism it was a tremendous gift to bin Laden.

5. Do you know that? I don't.
There are years of mutual support. Not to mention the millions of dollars in investments shared between the supposed terrorists and this country's aristocracy.

6. Lots of 'em figured it out last month
It ran all over. Here's a snip from an Oklahoma station, July 14:

The anonymous author of the book "Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on Terror" told the British Broadcasting Corp. "Iraq was a gift of epic proportions to Osama bin Laden and those who think like him."

In the interview, the official dismisses two arguments that have been made by the Bush administration: that bin Laden and al-Qaida are "on the run" and that the Iraq invasion has made America safer.

He said the U.S.-led coalition is in a lose-lose situation in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The author also said Mideast policy should be debated -- including support for Saudi Arabia and unqualified support for Israel.

7. And ANOTHER gift to bin Laden.....

The story of how the Bush administration prematurely outed Muhammad Naeem Noor Khan, a double agent working for Pakistan against al-Qaeda, has finally hit cable television news. MSNBC picked up the story on Saturday.

On Sunday at around 12:30 pm, Wolf Blitzer's show referred to it. New York Senator Charles Schumer criticized the Bush administration for revealing Khan's name. He noted the annoyance of British Home Minister Blunkett (see below) and Pakistani Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat with the Americans for blowing Khan's cover. He said Hayat complained that if Khan's name had not been reveaeled to the New York Times by the Bush administration, he might well have provided information that would have led to the capture of Usamah Bin Laden himself!

Perhaps it's all intentional rather than a 'blunder'.
