Vonnegut on Bush, pat act, librarians, etc.
"In case you haven’t noticed, and as a result of a shamelessly rigged election in Florida, in which thousands of African Americans were arbitrarily disenfranchised, we now present ourselves to the rest of the world as proud, grinning, jut-jawed, pitiless war lovers, with appallingly powerful weaponry and unopposed.

In case you haven’t noticed, we are now almost as feared and hated all over the world as the Nazis were.

With good reason."

Sure wish I could write this well.

1. All because of that guy:

"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator."

he modestly but implicitly compares himself to Twain in this editorial. with the same caustic wite, he is the modern Twain IMHO.

6. And very well he writes.

And still on the subject of books: Our daily sources of news, papers and TV, are now so craven, so unvigilant on behalf of the American people, so uninformative, that only in books can we find out what is really going on.

Craven and unvigilant, indeed. What a complete and utter wasteland!

:toast:

Thanks for posting.

So poignant, “Life is no way to treat an animal, not even a mouse.”

"Being kind to animals is not enough. Avoiding cruelty is not enough. Housing animals in more comfortable, larger cages is not enough. Whether we exploit animals to eat, to wear, to entertain us, or to learn, the truth of animal rights requires empty cages, not larger cages." -- Tom Regan, whose latest book is Empty Cages: Facing the Challenge of Animal Rights
