Media Does Matter: Just Ask Bill O'Reilly (about mediamatters.org)
Edited on Wed Aug-11-04 09:10 AM by SeveneightyWhoa
This is my piece focusing on Bill O'Reilly and MediaMatters.org, inspired by the O'Reilly / Paul Krugman debate on Tim Russert's show:

Media Does Matter: Just Ask Bill O'Reilly

Robert Furs

There it was: in a mid-commotion lull between verbal outbursts from Bill O’Reilly – pompous know-it-all – and the meek responses from a visibly shaken Paul Krugman – economist and hero of liberal America – was a piece of documented commentary that brought O’Reilly’s verbal vengeance on a brand new, little-known organization.

1. I wrote Paul Krugman an email offering him moral support after MTP
O'Reilly was an unreasonable, table-pounding bully. I don't know who watching would see otherwise. (Unless that viewer was an unreasonable, table-pounding bully himself).

Russert should have intervened to stop O'Reilly. I don't think well of Russert.

2. ...and I wrote to Russert just now
I am a frequent viewer of Meet the Press. I was not impressed with the program with Mr. Krugman and Mr. O'Reilly. Your program is noted for a decorum of respect and reasonable discussion. Bill O'Reilly went way beyond the standards of your program and lowered it to the sort of invective seen on lower political television programs. For example, he made an analogy between the Media Matters website and using the Ku Klux Klan for material.

O'Reilly was an unreasonable, table-pounding bully. I don't know who watching would see otherwise. He basically took over your program and conducted it as he does his show on Fox News Network.

I would be surely disappointed if you invited Bill O'Reilly back to your program.

3. Good article - thanks
I like identifying what RWers mean when they say hate: with anything opposed to conservatism.

4. They're right on about O'Really
It was really eye-opening to me to see how worked up he got about Media Matters. It smacked of a propagandist desperately trying to slander a group which is capable of inflicting significant damage on his whole way of operating.

5. unrelated but similar
Chris Matthews is becoming more and more O'Reilly like. I was watching Hardball(a show I USED to enjoy)last night and there was a segment on the current spate of political ads. Long story short, Chrissy summed up the ads this way - "I think GW Bush is better than the Kerry ads say, and I think Kerry is worse than the Bush ads" - although that is in quotes, it is a paraphrase.

Also, is there any way to give Steve McMahon some balls? He just lets everybody walk all over him...
