The Company You Keep: Swift Boat Veterans Vs. The Truth
The Company You Keep: Swift Boat Veterans Vs. The Truth

Scott C. Smith

The game of politics is an ugly game, and there’s no better example of this than the current campaign against John Kerry by a group called Swift Boat Veterans for The Truth. The group has been attempting to counter John Kerry’s claims of honorable service in Vietnam by employing the classic smear campaign tactics of misinformation, lies, and distortion of the truth.

1. Nice conclusion at the end
"Kerry put his life on the line. How long he served in Vietnam is irrelevant. The fact that he did serve is. "

2. Tweety interviewed John O'Neill
At the end, Tweety mumbled something about the comparison between Kerry's outstanding service and Bush's lack of it. They didn't cut the sound off quickly enough.

Bill O'Reilly has come out strongly against this bunch.

This sort of filth is costing Bush a lot. Good thing he's to pigheaded and stupid to repudiate it.

6. So much for changing to tone in Washington
Whether it's a "go fuck yourself" quote from Dick Cheney, to the leaking of the name of a CIA operative, Bush and his team have changed the tone in Washington -- for the worse. The Move On PAC has a campaign right now get Bush to denounce the Swift Boat Vets. Anyone want to guess when Bush will do it? My bet is never.

Oh, and thanks for the compliments on my column.

7. The "notsoswiftvets" site is great - thanks for posting the link.
The thing that dumbfounds me is John McCain continuing to support Bush after what the neocons did to him. No matter what my beliefs, if I got smeared the way McCain got smeared by these guys, I don't think I could stomach it.
